JOB OPPORTUNITY AND APPLICATION PROCESS: This office is currently accepting applications for the position of Probation Technician I/II/III with the Probation Department. This recruitment will establish an eligibility list that may be used to fill future vacancies or temporary help for up to one year. Applications will be accepted until 5:00 P.M. WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 3, 2014. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Will perform routine clerical duties in connection with program requirements. Assists with supervision of juveniles and adults assigned to a Deputy Probation Officer’s caseload. Performs various office duties as necessary, including typing reports and correspondence, compiling data for reports, copying and filing documents, entering data/retrieving data from computer, ect. May perform clerical work of a confidential nature. May maintain and process billing records, service statements, permits, applications and/ or other related documents. Gathers data and collects documents as need for Deputy Probation Officers to prepare recommendations for the court. Prepares and maintains case records as directed. Interviews clients, families and interested individuals to assist in identifying behavior patterns, home environmental problems, and other difficulties. Assists in making investigations and reports on findings. Contacts schools and/or employers to determine client’s activities and behavior. Participates in the testing for alcohol and drug use/abuse which will involve collecting urine specimens for drug testing of clients. Assist in establishing programs, sometimes acting as co-leader in group discussions and may be required to facilitate group meetings. Discuss planned treatment programs and available resources with the client and/or Family. Perform related duties as required. REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of practices and procedures associated with the California Penal Code,

vehicle Code, and Welfare and Institutes Code. Knowledge of problems, needs, attitudes and behavior patterns of community residents. Knowledge of available community resources. Knowledge of counseling and interviewing techniques. Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with clients and other interested parties. Ability to learn, interpret and apply policies, laws, rules and regulations for an operational unit. Ability to prioritize work to meet statutory time limits pertaining to cases. Ability to prepare concise and accurate reports, as well as oral and written presentations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with legal and judicial personnel, outside agencies, fellow workers and the general public. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: . Probation Technician I: Graduation from high school supplemented with

forty-five (45) semester units of college course work with an emphasis in Sociology, Psychology, Penology, Corrections, or related field, and some experience working with individuals in an authoritative capacity, or a combination of equivalent experience and education. COMPENSATION: Appointment will be made at the minimum biweekly salary set forth in the range above. Appointment at the "II" level will be made if the applicant exhibits abilities and credentials that surpass those listed as requirements and upon recommendation by the appointing authority and approval by the Personnel Officer. Appointee shall serve a 6-month probationary period before being classified as permanent. A 5 % step increase is provided upon satisfactory completion of the probationary period. CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: In compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act, Del Norte County is required to verify, within three days of employment of any person, that he/she is: 1) a citizen or national of the United States; 2) an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence or authorized by the Immigration and Naturalization Service to work in the United States. Paid annual leave: Vacation- 5 working days the first year; after one year of continuous service 10 working days per year; after 5 years of continuous service - 15 working days per year; after 10 years - 20 working days per year; after 15 years - 25 working days per year. Floating Holidays- 3 working days each fiscal year. Sick Leave- 12 working days each year with unrestricted accumulation. Holidays - 13 each year. Retirement: The County is a member of the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) integrated with Social Security. Group Insurance: County pays a portion of the employee's group health, dental, and life insurance premiums with dependent health and dental care benefits available at group rates. Voluntary Deferred Compensation Plan: Employees may elect to have a percentage of their salary deferred for pre-tax investment. DEL NORTE COUNTY: Del Norte County is located in the northwest corner of California on a singularly beautiful portion of California's North coast in the heart of the Redwood Forest. The Smith and Klamath Rivers, two of the best salmon and steelhead fishing streams on the Pacific Coast, flow into the ocean within the county's boundaries. The climate is mild throughout the year, with winter daytime temperatures averaging 40-50 degrees, and in the summer 60-70 degrees; average rainfall is approximately 80 inches. Warmer weather is available within 10 miles of the shoreline along the scenic Smith River. Crescent City is situated on the coast 20 minutes south of the Oregon border and is the county seat.
