LIEUTENANT COLONEL STANLEY MARSHALL PROUTY JR. CLASS OF 1950

Born in Pennsylvania, he was commissioned into the Coastal Artillery Corps upon graduation. His initial duty station was in Okinawa with the 22nd Anti-Aircraft Battalion. In 1953 he completed training at the Artillery School, Fort Sill, Oklahoma. From 1957 to 1960 he served at the Headquarters of the McGregor Guided Missile Range in Texas and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal. He then served as a Battery Commander in the 8th Artillery in Korea from 1960 to 1961. His next assignment was as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at Culver Military Academy in Indiana from 1961 to1965 where he earned his second Army Commendation Medal. He then served a year at Headquarters, 12th Artillery Group before attending the Command and General Staff College in 1966. He was deployed to Vietnam for a one year tour with the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam and was decorated with the Bronze Star Medal. His final duty assignment was as a Safeguard Systems Officer until his retirement from active duty in 1971 with the Legion of Merit. As a civilian, he worked as the Director of Purchasing and Personnel at the Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts. He died on July 4, 1989 in South Hadley, Massachusetts.
