PUL’2015 Port-city Universities League Meeting What is PUL
Port-city Universities League (PUL) was established in 2006 as a unique international league of universities located in the world’s preeminent port cities. Having a secretariat in Yokohama National University, PUL consists of 15 universities from 11 countries. (As of September 2015) PUL aims to develop a global network among port cities and universities, and exchange ideas and views about the culture related to ports (history, trade, industry, maritime research, festivals, etc). It includes not only the faculties and students, but will in the future also address the citizens’ activities and initiatives.

PUL’2015 Port-city Universities League Meeting USP and the Port of Santos The University of São Paulo has been working alongside the City of Santos and its Port for many years now, especially in the education and training of professionals that today perform important functions within the area of influence of the Port of Santos, as well as in research applied to the solution of a wide variety of technological problems, including Port Logistics, Harbour Engineering, Navigation, and Oceanography, among others. Since 2012, when EPUSP - Escola Politécnica USP started a new Petroleum Engineering Course in Santos, USP has experienced a sharp strengthening of its activities in and around the Coast of Santos, following closely the important developments brought by the exploitation of the hydrocarbon fields of the Santos Basin (Pre-Salt). It is foreseen for the near future the establishment of an Ocean Engineering Course offered by EPUSP in Santos. The 2015 PUL Meeting at USP is, therefore, extremely timely, and will attract the participation of Brazilian as well as international experts having the port issues as a focal point.
