Lung Helpline – The Lung HelpLine can answer lung health related questions about smoking. Call the HelpLine at 1‐800‐ LUNGUSA or 1‐800‐586‐4872. You can also submit a question online at www.lung.org.
Vista Hill – 35 minute (video based) juvenile tobacco cessation education and prevention program. Completion will meet court ordered requirements. Classes held in Encinitas and Kearny Mesa Juvenile Detention Facility. For information, call 858‐ 514‐5101.
Patches and other quit smoking aids – Some health insurance plans, including Medi‐Cal, will pay for the nicotine patch for those enrolled in a quit smoking program (includes the California Smokers’ Helpline). Most private insurance companies will also cover prescription cessation aids (ChantixTM or ZybanTM ) or a nicotine replacement product such as gum, inhaler, patch, or spray; check with your provider. Medi‐Cal Incentives to Quit Smoking (MIQS) Project – Medi‐Cal members smoke at higher rates than the general population and are at high risk for developing smoking‐related chronic diseases. The MIQS Project seeks to motivate smoking cessation by offering a $20 gift card to Medi‐Cal members who call the California Smokers' Helpline and enroll in its free telephone‐ based support services.
