To whom it may concern: As music director at the James A. Foshay Learning Center, I’ve been a colleague of Michela Carlton’s for nearly fifteen years. Never have I known a more passionate and devoted educator to improving school culture and providing excellent experiences for children and the community. She has limitless energy and is quick to serve on committees and difficult missions when others are reluctant. Michela has played a vital role in virtually every aspect of our school including discipline, budget, WASC accreditation, school based management, and coordinating testing. Michela created a French program at Foshay that has seen our students grow and matriculate through at least 4 levels (Intro to French, French I, II, and III) with many passing the AP French exam and some going on to major in French in college. Through the French and Leadership programs, Michela created events (fashion shows, mardi gras, talent shows, themed dances, clean-up days) that inspired opportunities for teachers to collaborate creatively while implementing initiatives related to the International Baccalaureate program. Michela has taken several groups to Europe over the years, but recently, she coordinated a trip to Paris, France, that brought together our school’s jazz band and the French program. Prior to departure, she reached out to the French Consulate in Los Angeles and established a partnership that brought our students the opportunity to become American ambassadors! This deepened and enriched the experience for all of us making it more than just a trip. Michela Carlton has been highly successful at Foshay Learning Center in leading teachers, helping them collaborate creatively, and providing meaningful opportunities that allow our children to find excellence. She is meticulous and has a great sense for details. I recommend her to the fullest and believe she will be a highly effective administrator. Sincerely,
