Trials of Puritans, III. Turmoil in Salem, IV. Intervention of Devil, V. The Theory of Accusation, VI. The Result of Accusation. I. Accusation in Salem A. Examination began in Salem Village 1. Prisons full with accused witches 2. There was no charter B. Possessed by devil 1. Accused several local women 2. Public opinion turned against trials C. Service of the devil 1. Local justice system 2. Spread of hysteria D. Klein writes, “At Christmas they would have a merry meeting to form a covenant” (n.pag.). It means that in one day, they will gather to meet each other include the devil to make agreement.
