Title Research Specialist Ref: RS03/10/17 Department Skills Planning Employment Permanent: Employment Contract is limited to the licence duration of the SETA. Report Skills Planning Development & Research Manager Purpose To conduct research by using both qualitative and quantitative approaches to inform Skills Planning for FoodBev Sector Education and Training Authority’s (SETA). Roles and Responsibilities: Perform research • Oversee research undertakings commissioned by FoodBev SETA • Oversee the development of a Sector Skills Plan for the food and beverages manufacturing sector • Disseminate Sector Skills Plan and research findings to the sector • Coordinate the development of FoodBev SETA Strategic Plan and Annual Performance Plan • Manage Chambers from the sector • Supervise a team of researchers that conduct research for the FoodBev SETA • Develop a FoodBev SETA research agenda • Assist Skills Planning Manager in the development of the FoodBev SETA Research policy and strategy • Mentor researchers with the aim of enhancing individuals’ knowledge, skills, values and attitudes. • Manage individual and team performances against performance standards. • Implement FoodBev SETA Governance Structure’s decisions. • Compile monthly and quarterly reports • Produce research report for the sector

Skills Planning •Analyses the Workplace Skills Plan (WSP), engages with the Chambers and internal departments to identify essential areas of research that will inform the Sector Skills Plan (SSP). • Development of planning documents such as SSP, SP and APP for review by Manager. • Provides input into the development of the research project workflow, including tracking of deliverables and prioritising work. • Provides input into the design and development of research methodologies, tools and analysis techniques for both qualitative and quantitative methods. • Oversee research undertakings that informs skills planning for the sector Experience and Qualifications      

Honours Degree in Social Sciences (NQF 8) with strong emphasis on Research Masters degree or PhD will be advantageous coupled with in depth SETA and SSP development experience At least 4 to 6 years working experience of which 4 years must have been as a Researcher Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative approaches, processes, including project design, proposal writing, sampling, data analysis and reporting. Ability to conduct interviews and focus groups Knowledge of how to analyse, interpret and evaluate research material
