For individuals issued a residency teacher certificate on or after September 1, 2011 The first certificate issued is the Residency Certificate, which is valid until the holder is reported as employed by a Washington school district as a teacher with 1.5 FTE or more experience. This certificate is then reissued with a three year expiration date.
Once the teacher receives their three-year certificate:
Pass ProTeach or Ntl Brd = earn Professional Certificate
Three-Year Certificate *:
OR 1. Failed – Eligible for two year renewal 2. Break in service – allow to lapse AND eligible for renewal when returning to teaching 3. No break in service – must submit affidavit of intent to register for ProTeach or National Board in order to receive 1st Renewal
1. Consider enrolling in ProTeach support program; 2. Plan your ProTeach Portfolio registration to allow time for resubmission, if necessary; 3. Submit ProTeach Portfolio prior to certificate expiration date. 4. May consider Natl Brd process as alternative – consider enrolling in candidate support program
