Mr. D.K. Sharma, Senior Additional Advocate General, assisted by Mr. Nandan Arya, Deputy Advocate General for the State. Mr. Sajjad Ahmad, Advocate for the respondent. Heard. Learned counsel for the respondent was heard on the quantum of sentence. Learned counsel appearing on behalf of the convict has vehemently argued that a lenient view may be taken, taking into consideration, the age of the convict/accused coupled with the fact that he has to support his family. We are of the considered view that no lenient view can be taken, taking into consideration the circumstances, in which. the acid was thrown on the helpless victim. Accordingly, the respondent/accused is sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of ten years and to pay fine of Rs.10,000/- and in default of payment of fine to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of three months. The respondent/accused is directed to pay compensation of Rs. 5,00,000/- to the victim within a period of four weeks from today. The State Government is also directed to pay compensation of Rs. 3,00,000/- to the victim within a period of four weeks from today. Let a certified copy of the judgment dated 12.06.2017 and today’s order be supplied to the convict free of cost during the course of the day. (Sharad Kumar Sharma, J.) Jitendra
