Rutland Central Supervisory Union – State of the School System April 2017 Here students are at the center. Our goal is to ensure that we provide just the right instruction, guidance, and support to ensure that each student learns at a high level. Learning about virtual reality apps for virtual student field trips. Using Google Sites to build websites with their students. Using Open Educational Resources to augment our curriculum. Building proficiency based learning opportunities that cultivate student self-direction within a framework of productive transferable skills. Learning about how to build project based lessons to engage and motivate our students. Personalizing learning through formative assessment. Using Google Classroom to organize, communicate and instruct students. Using video for performance based assessments.
In addition, thanks to a Tarrant Institute for Innovative Education grant, our students can now learn in an engaging, hands-on environment and practice key transferable skills such as collaboration, critical thinking, and problem solving. Each school has a M aker Space equipped with learning tools such as 3D printers, vinyl cutters, construction sets, circuit boards, robotics construction kits, programmable robots, electronics teardown stations, duct tape creation stations, 360 cameras, virtual reality headsets, drones, tools, and a variety of arts and crafts. Through Learner Centered structures and strategies, teachers are partnering with students to help them build their own futures.
