Phil Gorah has returned as Council Supervisor, great big thank you to Mrs. Lee for stepping in, (will remain as support). Graduation Photo appointments can be booked on the school website. Black History Month → ACS 11 is decorating the school. Possible speaker for Black History Month to come into the school? End of April will be where grade 8‟s come into the school for orientation. Split group in half for overcrowding issues. → council asked for assistance in tours. It was announced (error → see corrections) and if you start early enough, should be around $3800. A meeting for the Japan trip will be on February 15th, before curriculum night. For trips 50+ students causes chaperon problems so a cap of 50 students will be placed on the Japan trip, unless other circumstances arise. Grad e 9-10 Quebec trip leaving at the end of May. 30 (class set) of chrome books were bought. (designated department still TBD) Parking passes applications have gone pout and are due Friday (9 th)
On the week of no parking passes, the parking lot has been chaotic and teachers haven‟t been able to park due to the Anarchy of the school parking lot. New and important dates are on the school website. Guidance councilors are going to Jr. Highs to talk about course selection before orientation night. Farewell to Mr. Tuck and Mr. Barkhouse. “Community Support” a council lead by Cathy Burton helps students access banks, justice system, jobs, etc. When they aren‟t able to do so. → a route for money to flow from grants to students which wasn‟t previously present. SSP trying to complete final goals. Reading Comprehension and Math communication. Upcoming SAC April meeting will go over in depth course results and scores. Negotiations for building a second exit for the school in progress for future construction. Turf for the field or an „overhaul‟ will cost an estimated 3 million dollars ($3,000,000). Sourcing a „champion‟ and funds in progress. Capacity question arise, LHS can hold roughly 1400 students, we have a little over 1200 at the moment. No information about the abolishment of HRSB and the remaining school boards has been released to teachers and principals. Exam schedule for the first semester left the most heavy courses at a disadvantaged due to them starting on Friday and giving everyone else 2 extra days to study. Questions about the thought process were raised. Admin was determined to have made the courses. Was revealed that the allocated review week was more an on paper kind of event, as little teachers actually followed these instructions, leading to assignments on this week, so students were having to complete major and minor assignments, projects, comprehension assignments, labs instead of reviewing. Making the whole week redundant. Was not reported from department heads, further investigation to follow. Since students still had to focus on work instead of reviewing, a benefit for an exemption to sort of „not worry‟ about a class and focus on another one became redundant since they were continued to give work. Issues on Stock arose on the basis of 45 minute up (45min +) late buses in minus ten (-10) or even precipitation conditions. Multiple times during exams buses were 45min + late, having students and teachers stay longer than expected. Ottawa is doing an investigation into Sock and their business practices.
Corrections: In the schools newsletter, the Japan trip was under the name, „France Trip 2019” → will be corrected and a new version will go out in the following days. Decisions:
