Saint Aloysius Parish

November 19, 2006 Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time

From the Future Pastor’s Desk My Dear Brothers and Sisters: I have been asked to introduce myself to the Parish in writing. My name is Fr. Miguel Galvez and, God willing, I will be your Pastor as soon as I can travel to the United States. Like Fr. Faustino, I belong to the Society of Jesus Christ the Priest, an association of the faithful that is relatively new. Our Society was founded in Spain by the Rev. Alfonso Galvez in the year 1986 and since then we have expanded to other countries such as Chile, Ecuador and the United States. We are a small Society, more like a family. We all know each other, as we have studied and lived together during the years of our formation, and we regard Rev. Alfonso Galvez as our Father in Christ. The main charisma of the Society is to emphasize the ministry of the priesthood. During a time of our Church’s history in which priests seem so scarce, the words of Our Lord sound more real than ever: “the harvest is rich but the laborers are few, so ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers to his harvest.” (Mt. 9:37). Following His example, one of our main concerns is to seek out vocations to the priesthood. We strive to inspire in youth that the calling of Our Lord to imitate him in such a way that no other man is called to is a great honor and challenge. It is not merely a profession, but a change of life. A priest is not a common worker who performs a role that is given to him, but a person called to be another Christ. He acts in persona Christi, which is not a mere imitation but a mysterious participation in the acts of Our Lord. Of course, there is only one Priest and only one Sacrifice, but God wanted to make his apostles close participants in the actions of His Son. “Go, therefore, make disciples of all nations; […] and teach them to observe all the commands I gave you.” (Mt. 28:19). “Anyone who listens to you listens to me” (Lk. 10:16). Acting on behalf of Our Lord requires that the priest should live like Him, to “make [his] own the mind of Christ Jesus.” (Ph. 2:5). This can only be achieved through a profound love in Jesus. The Catholic priest is not a person committed to a set of ideals, or a delegate of the community to preside at a social gathering. The Catholic priest is a man in love with Christ Jesus who has accepted a personal call to be like Him and to point others to the way of salvation. This can only be achieved through the faithful example of living the same life as Jesus: in His words and in His actions. We desire to present Christ as the role model of his priests. We want to make Holiness the banner of our lives. And we especially want to serve those whom Our Lord has entrusted to us to shepherd. For this task we need the help of your prayers, because as St. Paul said: the priest is also surrounded by his own weakness (He. 5:2). Only God knows how much I yearn to start the ministry that God has entrusted to me in St. Aloysius Parish. Please pray that it may be soon. Blessings in Christ,

Rev. Miguel Galvez Poverty in America continues to rise, despite the fact that many people work full-time and at more than one job. The Catholic Campaign for Human Development is committed to helping people find permanent solutions to the problem of poverty, but they cannot do it alone. Please support today’s collection for CCHD. Thank you!

Question of the Week:

Why does the priest have different colored stoles?

Last Week: Are there schools in heaven? There is not school in heaven. In heaven, we have no need to go to school, to study or to do homework. This is part of the reason that heaven is a good place for kids! God in heaven gave us all the knowledge that we need without having to study, but God wants every child to study well in school on earth while they are here.

PILGRIMAGE TO ITALY The Italian Pilgrimage will take place from April 30—May 10, 2007.
