NHS LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP PRESENTATION February 8, 2018

SCHOLARSHIP INFO • Scholarship packets were mailed home on February 2nd and all seniors should have received an email with a link to the scholarship application. • Scholarship packet information is available on the Natick High School Website under the Guidance tab ➔ College Planning ➔Scholarships. • Packets are due with all supplemental material by Friday, March 2, 2018, at 3:00 PM…no extensions!! • Do not wait until the last minute to complete your scholarship applications.

PROCESS TO COMPLETING THE SCHOLARSHIP PACKETS • READ THE INSTRUCTIONS PAGE!!!!!!!!!! • Go through the list of all local scholarships and highlight any that you are eligible to apply to. • Look through the requirements to make sure that you complete all that is necessary (i.e., essay, separate application, etc.). • All scholarships require a resumé – this can be created in Naviance, Microsoft Word or Google Docs.

INSTRUCTIONS 1. Do not complete Section A at this time. Start with Section B below.

2. Complete Sections B through J. It is recommended that resumés be no longer than 2 pages – 1 sided copies only (see sample on next slide)

3. If you are applying for any need based scholarships, you MUST provide your EFC (Estimated Family Contribution from your FAFSA) in Section H.

STATEMENT OF FINANCIAL NEED • Many of the scholarship committees prefer to have a statement concerning your financial need. • Write a paragraph about why you need money for college.

4. Sign Section J

5. Complete Section K (Budget Figures).

“Colleges” refers to every school listed in Section E. If you plan to live on campus, complete the column for Room & Board costs as well as Tuition & Fees. To complete Section K, you can use the college cost information on the Family Connection (Naviance) website (https://connection.naviance.com/natick) or the College Board website (http://www.collegeboard.org).

6. If an older brother or sister is currently attending college, complete the area labeled “Brother/Sister” in Section K. Indicate the year of graduation from college for your brother or sister.

7. Once you have completed sections B through K, make a photocopy of the application for each scholarship. Then complete section A.

THINGS TO KNOW • If the scholarship requires a separate application, these are available on the NHS Guidance website or you can pick them up from Mrs. Slattery in Guidance. • The NHS Guidance Department will attach a copy of your counselor recommendation as part of your application packet. Any additional recommendations will need to be included by you. • You will need to obtain a copy of your SAT/ACT scores by accessing them directly from the corresponding websites (collegeboard.org and/or actstudent.org). • You can obtain a copy of your transcript from Mrs. Slattery in the Guidance Dept. beginning February 13th. You will need to make copies and attach it to each application. • The Guidance Dept. copier is not available for student use to copy scholarship information. The NHS Library copier is available for use after school only.

THE GOOD NEWS!

• Keep in mind that last year, the local scholarship committees awarded the NHS Class of 2017 with over $195,000. • Many committees give out multiple scholarships.
