Regular Board Meeting Monday, July 9, 2007   

The  meeting  was  held  in  the  Board  Room  of  the  District  Office  located  at  7700  Gross  Point Road, Skokie, Illinois.  I. Call to Order and Roll Call   Board President Robert Silverman called the meeting to order at 6:50 p.m.  Board members present at Roll Call:  Sheri  Doniger,  Jeffrey  Greenspan,  Ruth  Klint,  Robert  Silverman,  Lynda  Gault  Smith, Eileen Valfer.  II. Executive Session  It  was  moved  by  DONIGER  and  seconded  by  VALFER  to  recess  into  closed  session to discuss matters relating to negotiations, litigation, and the employ‐ ment,  appointment,  compensation,  discipline,  performance,  or  dismissal  of  specific employees.  A roll call vote was taken.  Voting Aye:  Doniger, Greenspan, Klint, Silverman, Gault Smith, Valfer.  The motion carried.    The Board recessed into closed session at 6:50 p.m.     At 8:10 p.m. it was moved by DONIGER and seconded by GAULT SMITH to  return to open session.    A roll call vote was taken.  Voting Aye:  Doniger, Greenspan, Klint, Silverman, Gault Smith, Valfer.  The motion carried.    III. Recall to Order of Open Session  Mr. Silverman recalled the meeting to order at 8:15 p.m.  The Pledge was recited.  IV. Changes/Additions to the Agenda  A personnel handout was added to the consent agenda.  Two student trips, Niles  West Pom Pon and Cheerleading will be discussed under Business.  V. Audience to Visitors (on agenda items only)  No one asked to speak.  VI. For approximately 40 Niles North students to attend a vocal jazz retreat in  Camp Lake Wisconsin on October 26‐28, 2007 at no cost to the District. 



For 40 Niles North students to attend the Milikin Vocal Jazz Festival in  Decatur, Illinois on February 15‐16, 2008 at a cost to the District of $5,062.00. 



For 24 North students to attend the Midwest Vocal Jazz Invitational in  Kalamazoo, Michigan on March 28‐29, 2008 at no cost to the District. 



2007‐08 North Cook Young Adult Academy Agreement for $220,834.58. 



2007‐08 ED‐RED Membership in the amount of $4,282. 



Textbook Adoptions at an anticipated total cost of $12,691. 

  IX. Superintendent’s Report  Dr. Gatta reported that the second semester of summer school started today and  all is going well.  The second semester Viking Voice and West Watch contain the  community report.  This will be going out to all Niles Township residents.  The  Page 8 of 12

summer projects are well under way and the enhancements to the buildings are  very positive.    − Principals’ Report  Bob Freeman commented that the leakage and air conditioning problems in  the pool area have been repaired.  Kaine Osburn spoke of the boys and girls basketball summer leagues and  invited the Board to attend these games as they are quite exciting.  X. Board Members’ Comments  There were no Board member comments.  XI. Board Committee and Other Reports  A Facility Committee meeting will take place on July 11 at 8:00 a.m. at North.  XII. Business  Student Trips  Dale  Vogler  stated  that  the  Niles  West  Pom  Pons  and  Cheerleading  trip  forms  were  filled  out  incorrectly.    She  said  that  the  chaperone  costs  will  come  out  of  Activity funds rather than District funds.  Ms. Vogler commented that beginning  this school year Cheerleading is an IHSA recognized sport.     

It was moved by GAULT SMITH and seconded by DONIGER to approve the  student trips for 34 Niles West Pom Pons to attend a camp in Wisconsin Dells,  Wisconsin on July 10‐13, 2007 at no cost to the District and for  26 Niles West  Cheerleaders  to  attend  the  UCA  Cap  at  Illinois  State  University  in  Normal,  Illinois on July 20‐23, 2007 at no cost to the District.  A roll call vote was taken.  Voting Aye:  Doniger, Greenspan, Klint, Silverman, Gault Smith, Valfer.  The motion carried.    Corrected copies of the student trips reflecting ‘no cost to the District’ will be  provided to the Board members.  Tentative Budget Resolution  Sue  Husselbee presented  the  tentative  budget containing  changes  suggested  by  the Board.    It was moved by GAULT SMITH and seconded by DONIGER to authorize the  Administration  to  place  on  public  display  the  2007‐08  Tentative  Budget  and  adopt the resolution.  A roll call vote was taken.  Voting Aye:

Window Repair for Niles West  Jeffrey  Greenspan  asked  how  the  bids  for  this  window  repair  were  sub‐ mitted.  Gerry Yeggy said Legat put it in one of their publications; we put it  in  the  newspaper,  and  architecture  publication.      Mr.  Yeggy  further  stated  that  $75,000  per  year  for  the  last  three  years  has  been  budgeted  for  these  windows.  The bid presented for approval is below that price.    It was moved by GREENSPAN and seconded by DONIGER to award the  bid  for  Niles  West  window  repair  to  Replacement  Window  Systems,  Inc.  in the amount of $174,096.  A roll call vote was taken.  Voting Aye:  Doniger, Greenspan, Klint, Gault Smith, Valfer.  The motion carried.

    Vending Machine Operations  Sheri  Doniger  thanked  Gerry  Yeggy  for  pursuing  options  for  the  District.    Mr.  Yeggy, with the Board’s permission, will talk to Aramark to see if they will buy  and  maintain  the  vending  machines.    We  would  have  approval  on  prices  charged  by  Aramark.    Another  option  is  for  us  to  lease  vending  machines  and  stock  ourselves.    It  was  noted  that  there  would  be  no  carbonated  beverages  available for purchase during the school day.  The Board asked for a copy of the  legislation on selling soft drinks.   The Board consented for Mr. Yeggy to begin  discussions with Aramark on this topic.    XIII.
