Message​ ​sent​ ​on​ ​12-7-2017​ ​at​ ​9:00​ ​PM Carlsbad​ ​Unified​ ​School​ ​District​ ​parents​ ​and​ ​families, This​ ​is​ ​Dr.​ ​Ben​ ​Churchill,​ ​superintendent.​ ​We’ve​ ​decided​ ​to​ ​close​ ​all​ ​Carlsbad​ ​Unified​ ​schools tomorrow​ ​(Friday,​ ​December​ ​8,​ ​2017).​ ​All​ ​after​ ​school​ ​activities,​ ​athletics,​ ​and​ ​performances​ ​are also​ ​cancelled. Student​ ​and​ ​staff​ ​safety​ ​is​ ​our​ ​top​ ​priority.​ ​Because​ ​of​ ​the​ ​potential​ ​loss​ ​of​ ​critical​ ​support infrastructure,​ ​including​ ​power​ ​and​ ​communications​ ​networks,​ ​as​ ​well​ ​as​ ​poor​ ​air​ ​quality,​ ​we’ve decided​ ​the​ ​most​ ​prudent​ ​course​ ​of​ ​action​ ​is​ ​to​ ​close​ ​schools​ ​and​ ​the​ ​district​ ​office.​ ​At​ ​this​ ​time, we​ ​expect​ ​schools​ ​to​ ​be​ ​in​ ​session​ ​again​ ​on​ ​Monday,​ ​December​ ​11. The​ ​San​ ​Diego​ ​County​ ​Office​ ​of​ ​Emergency​ ​Services​ ​has​ ​described​ ​the​ ​situation​ ​as​ ​Threat Level​ ​3​ ​due​ ​to​ ​a​ ​combination​ ​of​ ​factors​ ​related​ ​to​ ​the​ ​wind,​ ​fires,​ ​and​ ​air​ ​quality.​ ​They​ ​have advised​ ​us​ ​that​ ​school​ ​districts​ ​should​ ​be​ ​monitoring​ ​three​ ​sources​ ​of​ ​information: ● Cal​ ​Fire​ ​San​ ​Diego​ ​Twitter​ ​site​​ ​(@CalFireSanDiego) ● San​ ​Diego​ ​County​ ​Emergency​ ​webpage ● Environmental​ ​Protection​ ​Agency We​ ​are​ ​closely​ ​monitoring​ ​the​ ​situation​ ​on​ ​an​ ​ongoing​ ​basis,​ ​at​ ​this​ ​point,​ ​we​ ​are​ ​aware​ ​of​ ​at least​ ​11​ ​districts​ ​that​ ​will​ ​be​ ​closed​ ​tomorrow:​ ​Bonsall​ ​Unified,​ ​Fallbrook​ ​Union​ ​Elementary, Fallbrook​ ​Union​ ​High,​ ​Julian​ ​Union​ ​Elementary,​ ​Julian​ ​Union​ ​High,​ ​Mountain​ ​Empire​ ​Unified, Oceanside​ ​Unified,​ ​San​ ​Marcos​ ​Unified,​ ​Spencer​ ​Valley,​ ​Vista​ ​Unified,​ ​and​ ​Warner​ ​Unified.
