Message sent on 12-7-2017 at 9:00 PM Carlsbad Unified School District parents and families, This is Dr. Ben Churchill, superintendent. We’ve decided to close all Carlsbad Unified schools tomorrow (Friday, December 8, 2017). All after school activities, athletics, and performances are also cancelled. Student and staff safety is our top priority. Because of the potential loss of critical support infrastructure, including power and communications networks, as well as poor air quality, we’ve decided the most prudent course of action is to close schools and the district office. At this time, we expect schools to be in session again on Monday, December 11. The San Diego County Office of Emergency Services has described the situation as Threat Level 3 due to a combination of factors related to the wind, fires, and air quality. They have advised us that school districts should be monitoring three sources of information: ● Cal Fire San Diego Twitter site (@CalFireSanDiego) ● San Diego County Emergency webpage ● Environmental Protection Agency We are closely monitoring the situation on an ongoing basis, at this point, we are aware of at least 11 districts that will be closed tomorrow: Bonsall Unified, Fallbrook Union Elementary, Fallbrook Union High, Julian Union Elementary, Julian Union High, Mountain Empire Unified, Oceanside Unified, San Marcos Unified, Spencer Valley, Vista Unified, and Warner Unified. Other districts are still to be decided. Please check our website for updates: http://www.carlsbadusd.k12.ca.us/
