Project Work - Due date Monday 12th October 2015 Science - ‘Electricity’
As you are certainly aware, we value research, and the skills involved, very much in Year 6. So, this week we are asking you to do some serious research on a famous scientist involved in the development of electricity, or a by-product of electricity. This extended task will take you right to the last week of half term and will then be presented to your class as an oral, or spoken, presentation. Your peers will then judge your presentation and give you feedback on the positive and negative aspects; so you will need plenty of preparation! This task is over two weeks, so we are expecting an excellent presentation, which will need to be between 4 and 5 minutes in length and not simply read from the board. You will also need to go beyond with your research as people will have the opportunity to ask questions at the end. Remember, do not cut and paste! Use the following information to help you with this project: Dates and places When and where did births, marriages and death take place?
Personal Life What were the important events in theirpersonal life? - Did they get married? - Did they have children? - Were they friends with any other famous scientists?

- What was happening in society at the time? - Who was the King, Queen or President? - Were there any wars going on?

Consequences
- When did it happen? - What was invented/ discovered? - How did it happen?
- What happened to them as a result? - What happened to other scientists? - What happened in the world because of the invention/discovery?
Some names to help you decide:
Andre-Marie Ampere Sir Humphry Davy Thomas Alva Edison Michael Faraday Benjamin Franklin
Luigi Gal-
vani George Simon Ohm Count Alessandro Gieseppe Alessandro Volta James Watt Hedy Lamarr
Have you noticed almost all names on here are male? Were there many female scientists in the field of electricity? If not, why not? If so, can you do your project on a female scientist?
