SEAF Meeting Minutes March 2016 Tuesday, March 08, 2016 Call to order o The regular meeting of the Southeast Action Forum (SEAF) was called to order at 6:30 PM on February 9,
2016 at the Jackson Park Library by Terry Huxhold Minutes of last meeting o The minutes of the previous meeting were unanimously approved as presented Reports: o Treasurers Report Currently there is $1047.72 in the account o Code Report During April SEAF meeting Code Enforcement will present a 15 minute presentation to the information
they provide in the Leadership College Reminder that it's important to include details about where the concern is and contact information if you want a follow-up when an issue has been resolved when reporting code violations and concerns through RoanokeVa.gov and the iRoanoke app With weed season approaching Code Enforcement will be cranking up on grass over 10 inches For snow removal property owner should be removing snow from sidewalks within 24 hours and they are responsible for the land all the way out to the street o Police Report As a preventative measure please lock sheds to avoid theft as we approach spring, and also be mindful of kids out playing as weather gets warmer o Goals Committee Report Voices of SE questionnaire was handed out at Morningside Manor so the committee would receive additional responses to share on Facebook We're continuing to gather responses from neighbors throughout SE to post on the Southeast Roanoke Discussion group page on Facebook so others can hear what their neighbors think of the area o Mural Committee Report City grant was approved for $6,100!!! More information will be shared in upcoming meetings! Still gathering survey results to find out what those who live and work in SE want to see depicted in the art https://www.surveymonkey.com/collect/?collector_id=77493960 o REACH Report REACH is heading an initiative for the entire Southeast community - They have launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise funds to purchase and fix up two highly visible homes right above the mural site on Dale Ave REACH is looking to have as many neighbors as they can to support this cause and is requesting a donation, even as small as $1 from all who believe in this project REACH requested a $10 contribution from SEAF to show that this initiative is endorsed by SEAF and a motion was approved for SEAF to make a $10 contribution to the project Please visit https://igg.me/at/JOYofServingOthers/x/13471729 for more info or to contribute Unfinished Business: o Update for Clean Valley Day April 9th Volunteers as well as coordinators for those volunteers, are needed - please email

Presbyterian Church, 1837 Grandin Rd Roanoke, VA at 7 p.m. https://www.facebook.com/events/1126323697386215/ o Request to legislatures regarding dumping concerns in Southeast Terry contacted Chris head and Sam Rasoul about SE's dumping concerns and received responses back from each Responses indicated that they'd like to meet and hear our concerns, and suggestions and then work with us to brainstorm ideas after March 12 when the General Assembly adjourns - more info to come New Business: o South City Knights baseball requesting sponsors to help fund team A member made a personal $50 donation to the SEAF to be used to sponsor the team in the name of the Forum, and a motion was approved to use that $50 donation to sponsor the team - "Southeast Action Forum" will be displayed on the coaches shirt based on this sponsorship o Spring "egg" your neighbor project Neighbors will gather at Fallon Park at 4pm Sunday March 20th, to fill colorful plastic eggs with candy, and place them in recycled egg cartons along with a springtime poem - these will then be placed on random neighbors doorsteps as a random act of kindness and the poem advises them to re-fill the eggs and share this with another neighbor, so the kindness can be spread even further For more information check out the Facebook event https://www.facebook.com/events/1078915038827898/ o Roanoke City 911 Community Involvement Team Melissa Williams and her team will begin attending monthly meetings to be available answer any questions neighbors may have, and would like to provide a more formal presentation of their team during a future meeting Explained that Roanoke is 1 out of 3 centers in the US that can accept texts to 911 for those that are hearing impaired or for issues where it would be dangerous to speak out loud to report an issue They are hiring and are looking for diverse individuals from around the Roanoke area o Project to turn old #6 Firehouse in SE into a non-profit community center for the community Terry Huxhold is presenting this idea at Big Lick Soup March 16th at 5:15pm the CoLab located at 1327 Grandin Rd SW Roanoke, VA 24015 For more information check out the Facebook event https://www.facebook.com/events/1711339995753014/ o Professional Security Consultant from Cox Communications Lora Mowbray will be joining our meetings each month to become more involved in helping keep our neighborhoods safe and secure, she will be present to hear our concerns and help give advice on security solutions o Invitation to the Riverdale Farm association meeting this Thursday 3/10 Everyone was invited to attend this meeting as they will be providing insight about the soccer complex and Explore Park - The meeting will be held this Thursday at 7PM at Riverdale Baptist Church at 1624 Edgerton Ave SE, Roanoke, VA 24014 Adjournment o Meeting was adjourned at 7:25 PM by Terry Huxhold o The next general meeting will be at 6:30 PM on April 12, 2016, at the Jackson Park Library Minutes submitted by Nicole Harris
