He had to wade through a stream on the way. One day, by chance, the donkey fell into the stream while crossing it and before he was able to get up, much of the salt had dissolved in the water. The animal was relieved of much of the load. He was taken to the town and the salt that remained was old out. The next day, as the donkey was crossing the stream as usual with his load of salt, he deliberately threw himself of the load. On the third day too, he played the same trick. To cure him of this trick, the next day the master loaded him with sponges, when the donkey came to the stream he rolled as usual. When he got up he found that the weight had increased instead of decreasing. The sponge had obsorbed much water and became too heavy. Never from that day did the donkey play the trick. 47.
