Select Your New Home Address Urgently! Dr. T. SATYA RAO Every man born on this planet earth is given by God a choice between two destinations. The man himself has to choose either of them. One choice is the glorious city of God, called the heavenly Jerusalem, which is also known as new Jerusalem. Another one is the eternal lake of fire called Hell. God gives freedom to every man to go either to hell or to new Jerusalem, but both are permanent, eternal and remain forever and ever. Man has no death which can make him extinct. To God our Creator everyone is alive. “For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him” (Luke 20:38). Man has to live either in the eternally suffering place, lake of

fire or in the eternally glorious heavenly city. God shows both hell and heaven to man, but warns him to choose the right one. Bible is full of such illustrations. In the Garden of Eden God kept two special trees. One is for the knowledge of good and evil. God prohibited man from eating the fruit of it (Gen. 2:17). Man disobeyed and the result is ‘curse’. The other is the Tree of Life. Man missed it as God’s offer is withdrawn from the defiled man (Gen 3:24). Similarly God kept two ways before His people Israelites. He spoke through His servant Moses. “See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil.” “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and

death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live” (Deut. 30:15, 19). Jesus Himself gave similar direction. “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it” (Matt. 7:13, 14). Now let us see what the Scriptures say about new Jerusalem and about eternal lake of fire. New Jerusalem is called the city of the living God. It will be a glorious eternal residence of 1) God Himself, 2) Jesus the Lamb, 3) All Angels, 4) Regenerated members of the Church, and 5) Old Testament saints. In the middle will be a river that flows from the throne of God down to the city. The Tree of Life will be on either side of the river (Rev. 22:1, 2). Paul explained: “You have come to Mount Zion; to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels happily gathered together. You have come to the congregation of the firstborn. Their names have been written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all men. You have come to the spirits of good people who have been made perfect. You have come to Jesus. He made a new agreement between God and man. And, you have come to blood for sprinkling. It is saying better things than Abel’s blood” (Heb. 12:22–24 SEB). In the Bible God gave the city’s dimensions, foundations, wall, gates and streets. “The city was perfectly square, as wide as it was long. The angel

measured the city with his measuring stick: it was fifteen hundred miles long and was as wide and as high as it was long. The angel also measured the wall, and it was 216 feet high, according to the standard unit of measure which he was using. The wall was made of jasper, and the city itself was made of pure gold, as clear as glass” (Rev. 21:16-18 GNB). The foundation stones of the city wall were adorned with all kinds of precious stones such as jasper, sapphire, agate, emerald, onyx, carnelian, yellow quartz, beryl, topaz, chalcedony, turquoise, amethyst. The twelve gates were twelve pearls; each gate was made from a single pearl. The street of the city was of pure gold, transparent as glass (Rev. 21:19–21). Then what is missing conspicuously in the holy city, new Jerusalem? The temple, the sun, and the moon. “And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof” (Rev. 21:22, 23). The glory of new Jerusalem is astounding and fantastic. It is indescribable. The light which comes from our loving Lord Jesus, when reflects on the invaluable twelve types of precious stones, the celestial city is illuminated with heavenly colors. That the city of Gold, for anyone to live in eternally, is what our heavenly Father only can do! God created the earth and the cosmos by His word as seen in Psalms 33:6, “By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.” But to prepare our

eternal home heavenly Jerusalem, He has been working year after year and by now centuries passed. How great it would be then? Let us hear what John says, “And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband” (Rev. 21:2). New Jerusalem is a real, literal, splendid celestial city. There will be no more death, tears, nor crying, or pain. It will be a spotless home without curse. The curse that began in the Garden of Eden is removed. “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away” (Rev. 21:4). “And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him” (Rev. 22:3). The Bible tells us how Abraham was longing for that heavenly city. Abraham was waiting for a city with foundations that God would design and build. “For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God” (Heb. 11:10). This vision made Abraham a totally changed person and he was willing to obey God to any extent. Abraham possessed much wealth, but the wealth never possessed Abraham because Abraham believed that his wealth was the heavenly city. Paul also had such a wonderful vision. He went to Paradise as God took him to see. He tells this story in 2 Cor. ch. 12. After visiting such a glorious place he was able to tell, “For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come” (Heb. 13:14). He further says, “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Phil.

1:21). Many other saints of God had such revelations. Even apostle John was mentioning about it in Rev. 21:2. If a man misses this new Jerusalem his alternative is eternal hell. Now let us think of eternal lake of fire: In the Bible we have this term hell for those who are eternally lost. In the Greek language there are two words for hell – Hades and Gehenna. These are two different places of suffering. One is in the heart of the earth temporarily. Today it holds many lost people. In Luke 16 the Lord Jesus told about a rich man who was suffering in the hell. It is the same place in the heart of the earth. But the final place is lake of fire. It is synonymous with Gehenna. After the Millennial reign of the Lord Jesus Christ on the earth the Hades or hell which is now in the heart of the earth, will be shifted to the “lake of fire.” In the Scriptures this lake of fire is described as a place of everlasting fire (Matt. 18:8), a place where “the smoke of their torment ascendeth” (Rev. 14:11), a place “where their worm dieth not” (Mark 9:48), a place of “outer darkness” (Matt. 8:12). Those who are thrown here are the people who are eternally separated from God and that seperation is called second death (Rev. 20:6; 21:8). The Bible gives us the list of people who are not eligible for the kingdom of God or new Jerusalem, but thrown into hell. “Shut out from the city shall be the depraved, the sorcerers, the impure, the murderers and the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practises a lie!” (Rev. 22:15 J.B. Phillips NT). “… They commit sexual sin. They worship false gods. They commit adultery. They are perverts. They are homosexuals. They steal they are greedy. They

4

are drunkards. They say terrible things about people. They rob people …” (1 Cor. 6:9, 10 SEB). “But as for the cowards, the faithless and the corrupt, the murderers, the traffickers in sex and sorcery, the worshippers of idols and all liars—their inheritance is in the lake which burns with fire and sulphur, which is the second death” (Rev. 21:8 J.B. Phillips NT). “If someone’s name was not found in the Book of Life, he was thrown into the lake of fire” (Rev. 20:15 SEB). However, a sinner can avoid hell and go to heaven by only one way. The Lord Jesus Christ declared, “…I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). To save the man the Lord Jesus Christ came from heaven to earth and offered His own life for the atonement of man’s sins. The Bible declares, “For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly” (Rom 5:6). “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom 5:8). “For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life” (Rom 5:10). This is the reason why the Bible warns, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). Two thieves were crucified along with Jesus, one on the right hand and another on the left. They were branded criminals, sinners. One of the criminals humbled before the Lord, confessed his sins and prayed to Him saying,

May, 2012

“Lord remember me when there comest into thy kingdom” (Luke 23:42). In answer, the Lord told him, “… Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43). Paul openly confessed how he was saved by Lord Jesus Christ. “O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord …” (Rom. 7:24, 25). “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief” (1 Tim. 1:15). That is why Paul was able to say, “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord” (2 Cor. 5:8). Now we know why people go to hell. It is so because they refuse to confess their sins and receive the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy” (Prov. 28:13). Thus even the vilest of sinners can be saved from the wrath of God. Dear Reader, if your new address is eternal lake of fire, whose fault is it? Here is a good exhortation from the Lord Jesus: “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Matt. 16:26). ★★★
