Assignment Charrette (new initiative!)
Worked with Ron Johns (Assistant Dean of Learning Assessment) to present assignment charrette proposal to the FCAG. The proposal was approved. Created a website to support the charrette – you can learn more here: http://sites.austincc.edu/facdev/charrette/ The charrette will be held from 9:30am to 3:30pm on 10/30 at HBC. Applications are due by October 9. Apply here: https://docs.google.com/a/austincc.edu/forms/d/13MdzoMbb1CmqPMbWD4gWzUdwVroYEF JGgCJWywZDgkU/viewform Goal is to give faculty members the opportunity to improve / create high quality assessments for students that incorporate the gen ed competency of “Visual Communication”. This is an interdisciplinary team approach to assignment design that will make use of faculty sharing feedback and ideas with one another.
Lilly Conference Scholarships (new initiative!)
The Lilly Conference for College and University Teaching and Learning will be held in Austin, January 7-9, 2016. The FCTL is sponsoring scholarships that will allow TEN ACC faculty members to attend this conference. We’ll ask participants to share their experiences with faculty colleagues at ACC through FCTL events and a blog post on the FCTL faculty forum.
FCTL Research / Surveys
Sent out FCTL progress report survey on 9/3/15 – Questions were focused on how well the FCTL is connecting to and serving faculty at ACC. Survey closed on 9/25/15 and we had 474 responses out of 1931 surveys sent for a response rate of 25% – you can see the results here: https://drive.google.com/a/austincc.edu/file/d/0B3dWva9XyE4TRDBGZDU2RUNmcHhJRWFyU Hduei1pY1p0empz/view Goal is to do regular research with ACC faculty colleagues to ensure that the FCTL is truly faculty-led.

Intellectual Feasts
FCTL received a proposal from faculty member Ted Hadzi-Antich. He was seeking support for a new FLC entitled “ACC Faculty Great Questions Intellectual Feasts.” The FCAG voted to support this program. Participants have been selected and notified. Meetings will begin this semester. Goal is to offer a group of faculty the ability to work together over the 2015-2016 academic year to read and discuss 4 great books. They will share meals and a conversation about how these great texts relate to the pursuit of excellence in teaching.
FCTL Library Project
The ACC library “FCTL Collection” is now available! Faculty Stammtisch / Campus Ambassadors
We’ve got stammtisch events scheduled for CYP, EVC, EGN, NRG, RGC, RRC, and SAC. Take a peek at www.austincc.edu/stammtisch for dates, times, locations, and ambassadors! We would like to add additional ambassadors to support this program, especially for HYS, RVS, HLC, and PIN. Developed this idea based on the concept of traditional German “Stammtisch,” which is a regular meeting place (with SNACKS) that facilitates creative discussions.

Presentation for ABE faculty
Presented “Student Engagement: How do you achieve it?” for a workshop with Adult Basic Education instructors on August 11, 2015. FCTL created this workshop and collaborated with ABE facilitators Dawn Closson and Amber Miller to share it with faculty. Participated in a TCCTA faculty focus group on 9/24/15 Presented at TCCTA Fall Conference for Faculty Leaders with Dr. Cynthia Ferrell on 9/26/15 Planning is underway to present FCTL efforts at future TCCTA events.

This resource will increase communication between colleagues and enable us to better serve our students.

Faculty Communication and Collaborations
Individual consultations with faculty members. Met with faculty members who traveled to Baltimore for the Culturally Responsive Teaching Conference. Planning future events with the faculty members above. FCTL will help them share what they learned at the conference with ACC colleagues. Working with Foreign Language Department to produce a workshop on student motivation. Goal is to provide support to faculty as they focus on their teaching efforts.
