CLASS TITLE: SITE INFORMATION SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR

BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of an assigned administrator, serve as a technical resource to personnel at an assigned school site; develop, maintain, analyze and enhance computer systems to fulfill information systems needs; install, troubleshoot and perform specialized repairs on computers as appropriate; install, maintain and repair Local Area Network (LAN) and Windows servers and workstations; develop and conduct computer training programs for personnel; develop and implement project plans for utilizing new technology. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Develop, maintain, analyze and enhance computer systems to fulfill information systems needs; modify existing programs to improve reporting and record maintenance; implement changes and additions of policies and procedures related to assigned activities; assure system access for new users. Install computers and related peripheral equipment including printers, scanners and a variety of drives; remove and reinstall computer equipment as necessary; maintain network connections and other cabling as needed. Install, maintain and repair LAN and Windows servers and workstations; setup and maintain network directories on servers; prepare and maintain documents related to server maintenance and repairs according to established procedures and guidelines. Research, analyze, develop, engineer, test, implement, document and maintain computer software solutions to meet the data needs of the organization in areas such as accounting, payroll, human resources, student attendance and other areas; communicate with administrators, team members, and external staff to determine priorities and establish schedules for assigned work. Troubleshoot and resolve problems related to hardware, network, operating system or software applications; coordinate with users to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner. Assist personnel with setting up and maintaining computer applications; install updated versions of software as directed. Serve as a technical resource to personnel at an assigned school site; answer telephone calls; respond to inquiries and provide technical information, advice or referrals.

Develop and conduct computer training programs in the operation of computers, applications, and LAN and Windows systems for personnel; prepare a variety of instructional materials including overhead slides and student, instructor and keystroke guides; prepare reports related to training and support activities. Train and provide technical support to personnel in the operation of computer systems; assist personnel with troubleshooting, hardware upgrades, purchasing software and database maintenance; prepare training and informational materials for personnel as directed; coordinate flow of technical information between various departments. Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports related to software analysis, studies, testing, selection criteria, and assigned activities; prepare documents related to inventory of computer parts and equipment. Operate a variety of office equipment including a telephone, fax machine, copier, computer and assigned software. Consult with vendors, service providers, training agencies and technical support regarding the purchase of parts, training facility activities, status of repairs and software and hardware related questions. Review hardware and software and recommend for purchase; assist with evaluating new client and server configurations. OTHER DUTIES: Perform related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Principles and practices of installing and maintaining LAN and Windows servers and workstations. Project plan development, management and implementation. Computer hardware systems, peripheral equipment, software applications and languages utilized. Materials, methods and tools used in the installation, operation and repair of computer systems and applications. Technical aspects of computer training and support. Organizational operations, policies and objectives. Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities. Record-keeping and report preparation techniques. Oral and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Modern office practices, procedures and equipment. Maintain current knowledge of technological advances in the field. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field and one year in the information systems field, including programming and system analysis or related experience. WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: Indoor environment. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Hearing and speaking to exchange information and make presentations. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard. Sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Seeing to view a computer monitor. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching. Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling moderately heavy objects as assigned.
