ABOUT CROCHET CORK TREES These cork trees were inspired by a knitted pine tree pattern. Alas, I do not knit. So I created a pattern for slip stitch crochet cork pine trees.
These trees can be made from new or repurposed yarns such as:
Make them as is. Embellish them with small beads or bells or a star on top. You can use the leftover strand of yarn from tying off at the top to create a loop to make hanging ornaments.
wool reclaimed yarn from knitted sweaters thick and thin novelty yarn doubled strands of worsted weight chunky yarn

Polyester fiberfill is a plastic oil-waste derivative listed in the US Toxic Substances Control Act. Please be aware that ingesting or breathing in even a few fibers can cause respiratory or intestinal tissue damage.
If you use natural materials, you will want to use laundry soap products suited to the fibers. Please consult your local fabric store or the product's manufacturer for recommendations. The only contraindication I am aware of is that wool fleece, felt, suiting, and blanket should never be washed with borax or washing soda, two common ingredients in homemade laundry powder and liquid.
All naturally filled dolls are capable of being cleaned through hand washing and air drying. For successful machine washing and drying try nonGMO corn stuffing, kapok, cotton, and eucalyptus (Tercel). Kapok and cotton stuffed dolls require a longer drying time. Corn stuffing feels most like plastic fiberfill, but you must check with the manufacturer to determine its GMO or non-GMO origins.

Materials & Info MATERIALS NEEDED Yarns of all types can be used as noted previously. I don't know how much yarn I used per tree but it was no more than a few yards. Scissors Stuffing (optional) Corks of varying sizes Glue Crochet hooks – size depends on type of yarn used. I used a 12mm bamboo hook for the think and thin yarn and an aluminum 4.25mm hook for the worsted weight rose-colored tree shown.

This tree is worked in the round. **Note: to create the garland effect in the lime colored tree, change color for rounds 3, 6, and 11 and return to the original color in rounds 4, 7, and 12.. Chain 16; slip stitch to the fi rst chain stitch to close the circle. Rnd 1 & 2: Slip stitch (sl st) in each chain around Rnd 3: Sl st in each stitch around Rnd 4: *2 sl st in next stitch (increase), 1 sl st in each of next 4 stitches, repeat from * twice, sl st in remaining stitch of the round Rnd 5 & 6: Sl st in each stitch around Rnd 7: Sl st in next stitch, *skip 1 stitch (decrease), 1 sl st in each of next 5 stitches, repeat from * twice. Rnd 8 & 9: Sl st in each stitch around Rnd 10: Skip 1, sl st 4, skip 1, sl st 4, skip 1, sl st 5 Rnd 11: Sl st in each stitch around Rnd 12: Sl st 1, *skip 1, sl st 3, repeat from * twice Rnd 13: Sl st in each stitch around Rnd 14: *Skip 1, sl st 2, repeat from * twice Rnd 15: Sk 1, sl st 1, skip 1, slt 1 Make a slip stitch to close off the tip across from the stitch on your hook. The fi rst round or two looks like a fl at disk but after the third round starts to curve in to create the tube of the tree.

The pins show where to make all the stitches. Insert the hook into these loops. The tree is worked from inside the tube.
After 3 rows, test it out on the cork to see which size cork to use.

The tree is coming to a point.
A novelty yarn will create interesting waves and shapes, such as this thick and thin yarn.
