Sociology (First term, 2006-07 academic year)

Course Outline Course Aims This course aims to introduce students to sociological concepts and theories, and helps them to understand human behavior in the contexts of social groups, social relationships, and social processes. It tries to facilitate students to get major sociological perspectives, and develops the ability to see the societal patterns that influence the individual as well as groups of individuals.

Format of instruction The format of instruction includes lectures and group presentations. The lectures comprise of weekly sessions from week 1-14 , totally 24 hours. The presentations will have 20 groups in all, each with about 3 students, and will begin from week 5 or 6 and take up 14 hours.
Course assessment Class attendance: 20% Course participation: 10% Group presentation: 15% written assignment: 15% Final examination: 40%
