SAVE OUR STEEPLE!
________________________________________________________________________ April, 2016 For almost 150 years, the Port Williams United Baptist Church has been an integral part of our community, and our building a treasured landmark. And now we must work together to protect what is sacred to us.
We are facing some major challenges as the building approaches 150 years old. Because of water damage and rot, the siding on the building needs to be replaced and the bell and steeple tower needs to be reconstructed. If not, the building will continue to deteriorate and the steeple may collapse. As you can imagine, this is an extensive and expensive project. Unfortunately, contractors can only give us a best-guess at the cost, for we cannot discover what's truly underneath until the siding is removed. It is estimated that replacement and repair costs will be between $75,000 and $115,000. Already, at the February 2016 Annual Meeting, the congregation voted to move $20,000 from the Memorial Fund to this building campaign. This is a great start! A committee has been formed and a plan has been made to raise the necessary funds to complete the project through a combination of fundraising, funds drawn from our reserve accounts, and donations. We invite you to help us with this essential repair. Here are several ways whereby you can help save the Port Williams United Baptist Church building.
Make a Donation.
Every cent counts and every donor will receive a charitable tax receipt. Cheques can be made payable to the Port Williams United Baptist Church and sent to P.O. Box 301, Port Williams, NS, B0P 1T0. Online donations can be received at pwubc.org (under the DONATE tab) with funds directed to the Building Fund Project. Pledge anything from $5 to $50 a week, or $10 to $100 a month. Pledge form is attached, and available at the Church office.
Support Events.
We will be having many fundraising events over the next 18 months. We would love to have you attend one of those events. Or, perhaps you would consider planning one of your own. This can be for the whole congregation or community, or even something as small as a coffee party with friends in your home. 1
Spread the Word!
