Dear Lee Elementary Learners and Parents: We are excited to announce that Lee Elementary is once again partnering with Las Colinas Federal Credit Union to open Spur Savings. The Spur Savings program is a student-run branch of Las Colinas Federal Credit Union. The branch is located at Lee Elementary, and is just like a real credit union, with one exception - the employees are Learners. Fifth graders to be exact. These 5th graders must apply and interview for their positions at the credit union, just like a real job. Other grade levels can participate as well by opening accounts and saving their money. This is a great opportunity for your child to learn and practice basic financial management and banking skills. We encourage everyone to participate in the Spur Savings program. Information: • These are actual savings accounts, which may be accessed at any Las Colinas Federal Credit Union office during regular hours of operation as well as at the student-run credit union at Lee Elementary. • The student-run credit union will be open from 7:20am – 7:35am. • Learners will be required to complete a deposit slip and will receive a receipt of their deposit. • The minimum deposit amount is $0.25. Spur Savings will accept both cash and checks. Checks must be made payable to the Learner. • No withdrawals are allowed at the student-run branch. Withdrawals may be made at the Credit Union’s main office in Valley Ranch (located at Cimarron and MacArthur). • These accounts will have no monthly service fee. • Spur Savings accounts are eligible to earn dividends on any balance. • Quarterly statements will be mailed directly to the Learner’s home or you can sign up for electronic statements by calling the credit union. To participate: • If you would like to participate in the student run credit union program, please complete the New Account section on the attached Membership Application. If your Learner is already a member of Las Colinas Federal Credit Union, please complete the Existing Member section on the attached Membership Application. If your child does not have a social security number, an additional form will need to be completed. These forms (W-8BEN) can be found on-line at http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw8ben.pdf. • The minimum opening balance is $0.25. Please do not send money with the Membership Application. Your child may bring their initial deposit to the Grand Opening on Thursday, September 28nd. • Please note that the Learner will be the main member on the account. One parent/guardian must be on the account, both are welcome. • Signatures must be included for all members. Please return the Membership Application to your Designer. Learners may open an account at any time during the school year. However, in order to transact business on the first deposit date (September 28nd), please return the application in the attached envelope by Monday, September 18th. We invite all Learners to take advantage of this unique and rewarding experience. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact Susie Mayes, our contact with Las Colinas Federal Credit Union, at 214-273-5094 ext. 214 or by email at
