STOCKHOLM STRAIGHT EDGE’S GUIDE TO
STOCKHOLM
Stockholm Straight Edge
STOCKHOLM STRAIGHT EDGE Stockholm Straight Edge is a nonprofit, drug free, all ages booking group centered in Stockholm. It was founded in 2009 and has grown from putting up smaller local bands to large international acts over the years. We all share feminist beliefs and have strong opinions regarding animal rights and social justice. Our objective is to make our events open and welcoming to everyone, regardless of gender, sexuality, skin colour or age. We only serve vegan food and fika, because we believe that our footprint on the world should be as crueltyfree as possible. The groups ideas are centered around Straight Edge, and therefore we only do all ages and drug free shows. In todays society, most of the entertainment outside of peoples homes are related to alcohol, which is pretty fucked up. We want to give people something else. Creating spaces where alcohol is not welcome will make people understand that having fun/stagediving/listening to live music is as nice, and even nicer, without a beer in the hand or a drunk somebody that makes the space to his/hers/its. How to faredodge in the Stockholm Subway The Stockholm subway is one of the most expensive subway systems in the world. This is why some people might want to know that faredodging is fairly easy. What are the possible consequences? If a ticket inspector catches you, it means you have to pay a fee, in theory. However, ticket inspectors in Sweden have no right to hold you in place or force you to stay in place in any other way; you can leave the station right away or leave the train (and the station) at the next stop. You can also refuse to show identification and dodge a fine in that way too.
Okay, that sounds cool, so what are the possible ways of faredodging? In most stations, there are glass doors that take one passenger at a time. You can, however, sneak in behind someone with a valid ticket. Just wait until someone comes who was a valid ticket, and stay close behind that person through the gate. It’s also possible to climb over the glass by using the sides of the gates. At the other side, you can let your friends in. The gate might beep at you if you let your friends in from the exit side. In some older stations, there are still turnstiles. These can be faredodged by activating the exit sensor on the exit side of the turnstile. This is done by walking up close to the turnstile and hovering your foot at the exit sensor until it loosens and you can pull it towards you. Pull it about halfway and cram through the space created. Or jump over them using the sides to support yourself.

SODA The Stockholm Straight Edge group shares a love of sodas. Our tips when it comes to finding the best of them:
ICA Aptiten , Torkel Knutssongatan 16, Ⓣ Mariatorget The only difference between a standard ICA Supermarket and this specific one is their extended soda catalogue. Kafé 44 , Tjärhovsgatan 44, Ⓣ Medborgarplatsen Mentioned before in the café section. Offers our favourite Cuba Cola, among other classics not produced by multinational douchebag corporations. Look out to try these sodas: ● Portello ● Trocadero ● Cuba Cola ● Hallonsoda ● Champis
OTHER TIPS The people of Stockholm (and Sweden) are usually very proficient with the English language, so don’t be afraid to ask the locals. A lot of people here are awkward, so they might act a little strange or nervous… This is perfectly normal. If you’d like to learn some swedish, use these:
English
Swedish
Pronunciation
One soda, please!
En läsk tack!
Enn lehsk takk!
Play Freebird!
Spela Shoreline!
Spehlah Shoreline!
I want to stagedive!
Jag vill stagediva!
Jag ville stagedivah!
The Stockholm subway is famous worldwide because it’s basically a huge art installation. The blue line is especially crowded with art. Look around when you’re entering or leaving the subway, who knows what you will find. XXX Stockholm Straight Edge 2015
