A foto reproduzida no bloco registra, em uma tarde de céu límpido, a saída de mais um passeio de turistas no Bondinho Pão de Açúcar, que, há 100 anos, propicia aos visitantes admirar a beleza do complexo turístico da cidade do Rio de Janeiro. Os selos focalizam o pico do Pão de Açúcar, uma das estações do passeio, e o bondinho no teleférico. Abaixo dos selos, as logomarcas do centenário do bondinho e a da Exposição Filatélica Mundial Brasiliana 2013. Foram utilizadas as técnicas de fotografia e de computação gráfica.

ABOUT THE SOUVENIR SHEET The photo reproduced on the combo records, in a clear afternoon sky, a tourist tour at the Sugarloaf cable car, which, for a 100 years has allowed visitors to admire the beauty of the city of Rio de Janeiro. The stamps focus on the Sugarloaf Peak, one of the stations of the tour and the gondola lift. Below the stampsthe logos of the centenary of the cable car and the World Philatelic Exhibition Brasiliana 2013. It was used the techniques of photography and computer graphics.

A tour with a 360º scenery of breathtaking landscape

O Bondinho do Pão de Açúcar, um dos cartões-postais mais bonitos do Brasil e, também, do mundo, comemora 100 anos, em 27 de outubro de 2012. Primeiro teleférico instalado no Brasil e o terceiro no mundo, é um dos mais importantes ícones do turismo carioca, tornando-se uma das principais marcas registradas da cidade do Rio de Janeiro.

The Sugarloaf Mountain cable car, one of the most beautiful postcards of Brazil and also in the world, celebrates 100 years in October 27th 2012. First ski lift installed in Brazil and the third in the world, is one of the most important icons of tourism in Rio, making it one of the main trademarks of the city of Rio de Janeiro.

No século XVI, o açúcar transportado da Ilha Madeira para consumo na Europa era preservado em cones conhecidos como pães de açúcar. Esses cones eram moldados em vasos cuja forma lembrava sino de igreja. A pedra fundamental de granito, com 396 metros de altura, que flanqueia a entrada da Baía de Guanabara era muito semelhante a esse cone. Daí a ideia do batismo pelos portugueses.

In the sixteenth century the sugar transported from Madeira Island for consumption in Europe was preserved in cones known as sugar loaves. These cones were molded in pots whose shape resembled a church bell. The foundation Stone of Granite, with 396 meters high, flanking the entrance of Guanabara Bay was very similar to that cone. That is why the idea of baptism by the Portuguese.

As obras de edificação das estações e instalação do teleférico começaram em 1909, e duraram pouco mais de 3 anos. Os bondinhos chegaram prontos da Alemanha. O trecho inicial, com extensão de 528 metros, ligando a Praia Vermelha ao Morro da Urca, foi inaugurado em 27 de outubro de 1912. O segundo trecho, entre o Morro da Urca e o Pão de Açúcar, totalizando 750 metros de distância, foi inaugurado em 18 de janeiro de 1913.

The works of construction of the cable car stations and installation began in 1909 and lasted for three years. The cable cars arrived ready to be used from Germany. The first stage, with a length of 528 meters, connecting Red Beach to Urca’s Mountain was inaugurated on October 27th, 1912. The second section, between the Urca’s Mountain and Sugarloaf Mountain, totaling 750 meters away was inaugurated on January 18th 1913.

No Pão de Açúcar, atualmente, funcionam dois sistemas teleféricos independentes, classificados como de grande porte, com dois bondinhos em cada linha, circulando em vai-vém (jig-back). A capacidade de transporte do teleférico é de 1.360 passageiros por hora. O Bondinho pode transportar até 65 passageiros em cada viagem, e é o único no mundo com as faces laterais totalmente transparentes devido ao acrílico e policarbonato utilizado, de tecnologia de aviação.

Sugarloaf Mountain currently have two independent systems of lifts operating, classified as large, with two cable cars with each line circling “vaivem” (jig-back). The carrying capacity of the cable car is 1,360 passengers per hour. The cable car can carry up to 65 passengers on each trip and is the only one in the world with the sides fully transparent due to acrylic and polycarbonate used in aviation technology.

O passeio tem como cenário 360º de paisagens deslumbrantes, tais como: as praias do Leme, Copacabana, Ipanema, Flamengo, Leblon; Pedra da Gávea, o imponente maciço da Tijuca e o Corcovado, com a imagem do Cristo Redentor; Baía da Guanabara, com a enseada de Botafogo; centro da Cidade; Aeroporto Santos Dumont; Ilha do Governador; Niterói; Ponte RioNiterói; e, ao fundo, a Serra do Mar, com o pico “Dedo de Deus”.

The ride is set in 360 degrees of stunning landscapes such as the beaches of Leme, Copacabana, Ipanema, Flamengo, Leblon, Rock of The Topsail, the imposing massif of Tijuca and Corcovado with the image of Christ the Redeemer; Guanabara Bay with the Botafogo Bay, the city downtown; Santos Dumont Airport, Governor’s Island, Niterói, Rio-Niteroi Bridge and in the background, the Sea Ridge with the peak “Finger of God”.

Nessas muitas décadas vividas e passeios realizados a bordo dos bondinhos, algo permaneceu inabalável: a vontade das pessoas que acreditaram, e não mediram esforços, para tornar real o sonho do visionário engenheiro Augusto Ferreira Ramos de construir um caminho aéreo ligando a Praia Vermelha, o Morro da Urca e o Pão de Açúcar, por meio de teleférico. Mais tarde, coube a Cristóvão Leite de Castro dar continuidade a esse sonho e modernizar o sistema do teleférico e os serviços da Companhia Caminho Aéreo Pão de Açúcar. Ousadia até para os dias atuais.

In these many decades lived and conducted tours aboard the cable cars, something remained unshaken: the will of the people who believed and spared no efforts to make real the dream of the visionary engineer Augusto Ferreira Ramos to build a path connecting by air the Red Beach, the Urca’s Mountain and Sugarloaf Mountain, using a cable car. Later, it fell to Christopher Leite de Castro to continue this dream and modernize the system of lifts and services of the Company Loafsugar. Daring up to the present day.

Para celebrar o centenário do Bondinho os Correios realizam esta emissão, em homenagem a esse complexo composto por edificações e pelo meio ambiente, que reafirma a identidade do lugar como marco histórico, marco geológico e Patrimônio Cultural Nacional. To celebrate the centenary of the cable car, the Brazilian Post Office held this emission in tribute to this complex of buildings and the environment which reaffirms the identity of the place as a historic milestone, geological landmark and National Heritage.
