The Sanborn Central Scholarship Foundation(SCSF)is excited to announce the Tanna Kingsbury “Believe” Scholarship. Tanna was an eighth-grader at Sanborn Central School in Forestburgwhen she was diagnosed in March of 2013 with Ewing’s Sarcoma. She passed away just 18 months later. Tanna fought cancer with the same determination and spirit that she brought to Sanborn Central when she first came through the doors as a Kindergarten student. Tanna had a competitive nature and apassion for sports, and enjoyed participating in whatever activity was in season. She was active in basketball, volleyball, track, softball, band, chorus and school plays. She especiallyloved Homecoming week and always participated enthusiastically with all the dress-up days and activities. When cancer limited Tanna’s active participation, she could still be found on the sidelines cheering on her teams. She had a love for children and was a role model to many. Tanna’s beautiful smile and unwavering strength and determination will not be forgotten. To honor Tanna’s incredible spirit and “never give up” attitude, Boyd & Dody Hopkins and family have generously offered to match any monies raised up to $50,000toward a scholarship in memory of Tanna. The monies raised will be placed in a perpetual fund within the South Dakota Community Foundation in Pierre and the interest earned on this fund will be distributed every year to Sanborn Central’s graduating seniors. In support of SCSF’s mission, EVERY graduating senior will receive a portion of the scholarship if they meet these criteria: 1. Graduate from Sanborn Central High School 2. Continue their education at any accredited post-secondary school(college, vo-tech, online, etc.) 3. Graduate from high school with a minimum 2.0 GPA(based on a 4.0 scale) The “Believe” scholarship is so named because it is a theme that became synonymous with Tanna, her fight, and her many, many supporters known as “TanDog’s Team”.To learn more about Tanna’s “Believe” Scholarship please contact Troy Olson ([email protected]) or Supt.
