Supplies:          

Ornament punch 1-3/8" circle punch 3/8" circle punch (from punch pack) Card stock or vellum - any color (also need green for leaves) Ink , sponges Scissors Crochet hook (or tool of choice for curling petals) Piercing mat 2-way Glue, Sticky Strip, Dazzling Diamonds Tea light

Getting started: 1. Punch 22 ornaments from the vellum or cardstock color of choice. Tip: when using vellum or white or vanilla cardstock, you can sponge the edges with desired color. 2. Cut off the "stems" of 6 of them, these 6 will be used for the "bud" around the candle (you will then have 16 petals and 6 bud petals). 3. Punch 2 ornaments out of green cardstock for the leaves (I use old olive). 4. Punch 3 circles with the 1 3/8" punch. One of the circles you will punch out the center with the 3/8" circle punch; this will be the one that goes on top of the candle. Tip: slide your 1 3/8" circle into the 3/8" punch as far as it will go and punch. This should be right in the middle.

Preparing the candle: 5. After punching out center of one of the three 3/8" circles, spread one side (top) with 2-way Glue

6. Then sprinkle with dazzling diamonds

7. Put 2-way Glue on top of candle and place circle

8. Put a strip of Sticky Strip tape about 1/3 up from the bottom of candle

Making leaves: 9. Using a tool of your choice (I tried several, and crochet hook worked the best for me), make veins by "drawing" lines on leaf while on top of piercing mat with tool. 10. Curl the edges and form until you get your desired shape

11. Sponge leaf with green ink so the veins show more and look more life-like. Tip: after I drew the veins in them I folded on all of the lines back and forth, wore the fibers down a bit.

12. Now you can put Sticky Strip on the "stems" of the leaves and apply to one of the 1 3/8" circles. This will be the platform for your rose.

13. If you are using white, vanilla or vellum cardstock you can sponge the edges with desired color. Some of my roses I used colored cardstock as well.

14. Once they are all sponged, you will curl them like you did with the leaves

15. Once this is done you will put them on sticky strip as shown below

16. After this step, you will add dazzling diamonds to the petals edges. Do this by just running the 2way Glue pen along the top edge of the petal, then sprinkle with the glitter, tap off. I only put glitter on the top.

17. Now you can cut in between stems to separate

18. With your other 6 petals that you cut the stems off, you will sponge and curl them as well. After they are inked and curled, put a strip of Sticky Strip halfway up the front side. NOTE: If you are using vellum you will not use Sticky Strip for this step. You will adhere the petals to the candle with 2-way Glue instead. You don’t want the tape to show through the vellum.

19. You will also take the 3rd circle and sponge this as well

Assembling Rose: 20. To assemble rose, start taping the petals in groups of four as shown. Start close to the center.

21. Your next set of four will be between these but also further from the middle

22. Next between again, and again a bit further from the middle

23. Now you have 3 of the 4 rows. Before you start the next row, test to see that your candle is going to fit nicely in the center. If it feels too tight, the last row of petals should be put even further from the middle. If it sets nicely in the center, this last row can be placed right next to the 3rd row.

24. Next put Sticky Strip on the last circle that has been sponged

25. Place circle in center of rose. Body of rose is complete!

Assemble "rose bud": 26. Remove Sticky Strip liner (red plastic) from the candle and from the 6 remaining petals. Place the first three around the candle evenly as shown below

27. Now place the last three on top of but between these…

28. Next use 2-way Glue on tips of petals both inside and out, sprinkle with Dazzling Diamonds and tap off excess.

Now your rose is complete!!! :)
