Jeremiah 1 This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD: 2 “Stand at the gate of the LORD’s house and there proclaim this message:

Jeremiah 7:21 “‘This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Go ahead, add your burnt offerings “‘Hear the word of the LORD, all you people of Judah to your other sacrifices and eat the meat yourselves! who come through these gates to worship the LORD. 3 22 For when I brought your ancestors out of Egypt and This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: spoke to them, I did not just give them commands about Reform your ways and your actions, and I will let you live burnt offerings and sacrifices, 23 but I gave them this in this place. 4 Do not trust in deceptive words and say, command: Obey me, and I will be your God and you will “This is the temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD, be my people. But I have been watching! declares the LORD. 12 “‘Go now to the place in Shiloh where I first made a dwelling for my Name, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of my people Israel. 13 While you were doing all these things, declares the LORD, I spoke to you again and again, but you did not listen; I called you, but 1 LISTEN AND WATCH

Discussion Group Questions

January 15, 2017

Discussion Questions: 1. Read Jeremiah 7:1-15, 21-24 as a group. What do you think the main point of these passages is? 2. What were the Israelites doing that Jeremiah was encouraging them to correct? 3. What were the consequences going to be if the Israelites did not “change their ways?” 4. What are some things in your life that you think the Lord is trying to lead you to change? 5. What are the consequences in our lives when we don’t “change our ways” from sin? 6. The Israelites trusted that going to the temple excused their sin; what Christian activity might we subconsciously trust more that we should? 7. In v11 Jeremiah tells the Israelites that although the Lord has been watching their lives. Why is it important for us to remember that God is watching how we live? 8. Read v24 as a group. What do you think it means that they went “backward and not forward?” Ask some group members to share the direction they are moving in relationship with Christ. 9. Take time to pray for each other. Ask God to help us be humble to His correction and not stubborn towards His love- that we might move forward in Christ.
