The heritage and modern essence of the area lies within its villages with characteristic main streets lined with charming stores, cafes and unique shopping choices. The highlight of this tour will undoubtedly be the impressive Tesselaar Tulip Festival which features millions of tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, freesias and more, set in over 25 acres of farmland and includes entertainment, stalls and tempting food that reflect the farm’s Dutch heritage. Top this off with a ride on the iconic Puffing Billy through the southern foothills of the Ranges and this tour will surely create pleasant memories.

# This holiday offers a “door to door” service if you live in or join a tour in the greater Brisbane area, that is, anywhere from Bribie Island in the north, Ipswich & surrounds in the west to Jacobs Well in the south. ITINERARY Meals as indicated B = Full Cooked Breakfast, L = Lunch, D = Dinner Day 1 Mon Sep 18 LD Your tour begins with an early morning flight to Melbourne, where you will board your Cross Country Tours coach. After lunch, it’s time to head towards the stunning Dandenongs and visit the The Yarra Ranges Region Museum. Continue on through the outer suburbs of Melbourne to Mount Evelyn before settling in for the next 4 nights at York on Lilydale Resort (Ph 03 9736 4000). The resort is located on 4.5 hectares of natural bushland including a picturesque lake and beautiful manicured gardens and is sure to provide a relaxed setting for your spring holiday. Please be aware that all rooms have showers over baths. Day 2 Tue Sep 19 BD After breakfast we’ll travel to Woori Yallock, part of Victoria’s Fruit Bowl, for a visit to Rayner’s Orchard. This boutique fruit orchard grows fruit all year round and there will be opportunity for a sample or two during a tractor fruit tasting tour. Next we visit the Tesselaar Tulip Festival. Take time to purchase your own lunch as you wander around the market and food stalls. There will also be opportunity to take a ride on the Tulip Train around the colourful fields (own expense). Day 3 Wed Sep 20 BLD Today will be spent surrounded by the natural beauty of the Dandenong Ranges. Visit the Mount Dandenong Observatory which is set 633 metres above sea-level. Sit back and take in the view from the Sky High Restaurant as you enjoy morning tea before continuing on to the William Ricketts Sanctuary. This outdoor art gallery and cultural landscape features more than 90 quirky sculptures that were the life work of artist and environmentalist, William Ricketts. Following lunch at the Cuckoo Restaurant, which is sure to be entertaining, spend some free time in Olinda, the highest village in the Dandenong Ranges, which boasts a busy shopping strip with fascinating stores to explore. Day 4 Thu Sep 21 BLD This morning, visit the Alfred Nicholas Memorial Gardens which are the original gardens of the historic Burnham Beeches Estate and are renowned for their picturesque waterfalls, water features and its iconic ornamental lake and boathouse. Lunch today will be onboard the famous Puffing Billy Steam Train. Savour the first class menu whilst sharing the grandeur and charm of a steam train journey between Belgrave and Emerald Lake. This afternoon, visit Sassafras, known for its many high quality tea rooms and its 19th century charm. Take time to browse through the antiques, art, craft and speciality shops with unique, hand crafted items.

Day 5 Fri Sep 22 BLD This morning we visit Warratina Lavender Farm where we’ll enjoy morning tea in the Lavender Cottage Tea Rooms. It’s now time to farewell the beautiful Dandenong Ranges and travel into the Yarra Ranges, which forms part of the Great Dividing Range. Journey through Healesville and Taggerty to visit the Lake Eildon area before travelling through Benalla, a pretty regional town situated on the Broken River. Continue onto our overnight accommodation at the Albury Paddlesteamer Motel (Ph 02 6041 1711). Day 6 Sat Sep 23 BL This morning we’ll travel to Holbrook, the half way point between Melbourne and Sydney. Stop for morning tea at the award winning Submarine Café before visiting the Holbrook Submarine Museum where you will experience the original control room of the HMAS Submarine Ottway. Continue on to Gundagai for lunch before arriving in Canberra for your return flight back to Brisbane. On arrival, you will be met by our Cross Country Tours staff who will have your transfers arranged.
