The Hare and the Tortoise One day a Hare teased the Tortoise for it’s short feet and slow speed. The Tortoise laughed at the Hare and said ” You may be fast like the wind, but I will beat you in a race!” The Hare smiled and did not believe the Tortoise. The Hare thought, “That is impossible, the Tortoise has short feet and and is really slow!” So the Hare told the Tortoise “You’re on! How far and where are we going to run?” The Tortoise thought for a while. How was he going to make it a fair race? Looking round he saw the Fox sitting watching them. The Tortoise said to the Fox “ The Hare and I are having a race could you tell us where to run to?” The Hare thought this was a good idea and agreed to run the where the Fox decided. The next day at the starting point the Hare and the tortoise met the Fox. The Fox lined the Hare and the Tortoise up then “ Ready, Steady, Go!” and the two racers set off. Tortoise could see the Hare laughing as he disappeared over the Hill. The Tortoise put his head down, then a smile appeared on his face and he held his head up high. The Tortoise kept running with a slow and steady speed to the end of the race. The Hare turning round after the top of the hill could not see the Tortoise. He was feeling a little sleepy so sat down and fell asleep. He woke with a start and looked back towards to the start of the race. He could not see the Tortoise. To be doubly sure of winning the Hare ran as fast as he could to the end of the race. As he reached the end he stopped. His jaw fell open as he saw the Tortoise sleeping next to the Fox. “Where have you been? Tortoise has been here for ages!”, laughed the Fox.

The moral “Slow but steady wins the race!”.
