Sunny Nash will speak on the history of miscegenation laws and initiate public conversation about the changing meaning of U.S. freedom and equality, using the award winning National Endowment for the Humanities-funded HBO film, The Loving Story, by Nancy Buirski. Nash will connect the motion picture, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, and the U.S. Supreme Court decision, Loving v Virginia. Cassone will address modern challenges of interracial relationships. Watkins will discuss how a changing racial makeup of media affects U.S. race relations. Nash, Cassone and Watkins will take audience questions and comments.
Created Equal: America’s Civil Rights Struggle marked the anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. The purpose is to help bridge racial and cultural divides in American life and to encourage communities across the nation to review and reflect on U.S. civil rights history and the ideals of freedom and equality. 150th
