A venue that bridges old and new Lovingly repurposed

Enviable location

We have recently refurbished our historic north buildings which were previously the home of Edinburgh’s Pharmaceutical society’s labs and lecture theatres. The event spaces enjoy immediate access to the hotel’s facilities and provide the perfect mix of modern luxury and historic charm to host a corporate function, conference or private celebration.

The Place is situated at 34-38 York Place at the hub end of Queen Street connecting the old and new towns with Leith and the A1, offering tremendous transport links and access to the city: • The Tram stop is just outside the hotel • A minutes’ walk from St James bus station • 5 minutes’ walk from Waverly Railway Station

• 20 minutes taxi journey from Edinburgh Airport. A short stroll will take you down to Princes Street, Gardens, where you can relax in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle.

The rooms The Baird

The Broughton

The Raeburn

The Baird is a flexible space, ideal for boardroom meetings, drinks receptions, exhibitions and private dining.

The Broughton suite teams the old with the new to create something spectacular. The ornate cornicing and period features married with Swarovski crystal chandeliers and state of the art technologies give the suites a twist of modern luxury, while keeping the historic topographies.

Similar to our Broughton suite, The Raeburn is a fusion of old meets new, teaming contemporary design with Georgian features, which in turn provides us with a boutique sensation, creating something a little bit special…

The location just off of the Terrace provides a space which is easily accessible yet still secluded from the hustle and bustle of the city, giving that intimate feel to any event.

The Broughton suite provides seating for up to 80 people in a banquet format.

The Raeburn Suite can provide seating for up to 120 banquet style. The area is very versatile and suitable for a range of events; from weddings and private parties, through to conferences and networking events.

The York

The Terrace

Between our function spaces we have an imperceptible audio proof sliding door that opens to join The Broughton and The Raeburn Suites together, creating the hugely impressive York Suite.

The outside terrace offers a great al-fresco experience nestled in the urban Edinburgh New Town. The ideal spot for summer BBQ’s, refreshing drinks and get togethers, as well as a fantastic break out space for conferences. The area is heated for those chillier days and nights, and if the weather turns the state of the art roof can be opened or closed at the push of a button, in just 45 seconds.

The suite is perfect for gala dinners, fashion shows and performances, as well as exhibitions and trade shows. The York suite can comfortably sit 200 people banquet style.

The Terrace can accommodate parties who want to catch up in the Scottish sun (fingers crossed), up to 120 people dependant on required furnishings.

*The York suite is our Broughton and Raeburn suites combined. Therefore we cannot give exact floor dimensions of this, as the rooms are different shapes and sizes. It is also worth noting The York suite may not be suitable for some theatre style events (unless linked by projection on a dual screen).

** Our Terrace area dimensions have been taken to form a block area. We also have small areas at both the top and bottom of our steps, which are not included in these dimensions. Also, it is worth noting the ceiling height is varied, due to the slanted roof (please find the dimensions given to signify the minimum and maximum heights when the retractable roof is closed.

The hotel

Food and beverage

The Place Hotel is on York Place, with 47 rooms ranging from the quirky ‘snug’ to the decadent ‘Grand & Spacious’ rooms and ‘Suites’. The Place is spread over three townhouses built between 1800-1804. The townhouses have been home to many, ranging from Sir Charles Hastings, Edinburgh surgeon John Lizars and in 1894 The Edinburgh Pharmaceutical society; which moved into townhouse 36 and created the carving above the door today, which is also where The Place’s logo was formed. Note: the hotel is on a number of levels and due to the character of the building we are unable to provide a lift for guests.

At The Place we take great pride in our produce, sourcing local ingredients wherever possible. From canapés and conference snacks to banquet dinners, buffet stations and BBQ’s. No matter what your hunger, we aim to fulfil your needs. Of course every bite needs a beverage… Our drinks team are full of passion: pursuing the top products, presenting the finest drinks, providing seamless food pairings and striving to please even the most exacting of palates. For more information on our seasonal, ever changing food and drink offerings just get in touch.
