The Tale of Despereaux Contrast Mobile Project Step 1: Students will read The Tale of Despereaux or Teacher will read aloud. Step 2: Tree Map Brainstorming The Human World
The Rat World
The Mouse World
Step 3: Draw the key descriptors brainstormed and discussed representing each of the three worlds from the Tale of Despereaux contrasting the three worlds. Step 4: After each key descriptor has been drawn and colored, write a description why that artifact belongs in that world on the back of the artifact. Then ask the teacher to hole-punch each artifact so you can later hang from the mobile. Step 5: Create a mobile using strip and three tree branches. Cross the three tree branches to make a triangle and tie each corner with a piece of string 18 inches long. Tie the three loose ends together at the center of the triangle. Then take another 12 inch piece of string and tie to the center of where the other three pieces meet. Step 6: Create a title card for each world to identify each corner of the mobile. Step 7: Using three more 18 inch pieces of string, loop each artifact through the hole, then attach the entire strand to the appropriate corner branch for each world. Have Fun! Rubric
