Cave - Camp Overnight Program – Teen (Parent) Information Welcome to Chicago Voyagers’ caving and camping program. We are looking forward to sharing some fun and helping you learning some skills, including working together, being responsible and achieving more than you thought. This sheet contains things which we thought would be helpful for you to know about the program.

What is it like?

This is a two day program. Caving will occur at Pop’s Cave located near Richland Center, Wisconsin. Caving will include a short hike to the mouth before we go in to navigate chambers and passages. Camping will include sleeping in tents, cooking outdoors and other camp craft skills. We usually have a camp fire and watch the stars. We will do a fun teambuilding game or two each day to learn different things (remember, this isn’t just fun, but is about being a better person).

What if I don’t know how to camp or cave?

No problem. We assume you don’t know how to camp and cave and our trained leaders will teach you everything. All we need is a good attitude.

Where are we going?

Pop’s Cave is located in southwest Wisconsin. We will camp at a state park or campground; we will pick one that works well for your group. Ask your youth agency leader if you wish to know where we are camping.

Sunscreen Sunglasses Bug repellent Small/medium towel Hat to keep sun off Small pillow (optional)

Please bring money or a lunch for the first day. We will supply you everything else you need for this adventure (camping and caving equipment, etc.) Can I bring my cell phone?

Our program is about doing something different and giving you a break from your regular life so you can focus on your personal growth. Therefore, we’d prefer you not use your cellphone during our program. Please consider leaving it behind at home or leaving it in the van. If it becomes disruptive, we will take it away.

What is expected of me?

We expect everyone to abide by these rules: 1. Respect each other, the natural world and our equipment (no put downs, no interrupting). 2. Try your best & help where there is work to do. 3. Support and encourage each other. 4. Be honest and speak up if you have an idea or if something is bothering you. 5. Things said in the group stay in the group (except for mandated abuse reporting). It is important that you also follow all safety instructions.

What about weather?

We camp and cave in all weather and can provide rain jackets if needed. Our staff will be watching the weather and will contact your agency leader if severe weather is likely.

Other Questions?

Ask your youth agency/school leader.

Come give our program a try. You will not be disappointed.
