Stewardship Seconds for Pentecost through Christmas 2017 (Revised Common Lectionary Cycles A/B) were written by Barbara Fullerton (St. Paul’s United Church, Paris, ON), Catherine MacDonald (Elmsdale Pastoral Charge, Elmsdale, NS), Kathie Murphy (General Council Office), and Lynn Watson (Bancroft-Carlow Pastoral Charge, Bancroft, ON).

June 11: First Sunday after Pentecost Loving God and neighbour involves our entire selves: our time, energy and money.

June 18: Second Sunday after Pentecost Emptying our cups creates a space for God’s love to fill.

June 25: Third Sunday after Pentecost Yoking ourselves and our financial resources with Jesus and others lightens all our burdens.

July 2: Fourth Sunday after Pentecost Sow monetary seeds through Mission & Service to offer Jesus’ love and compassion.

July 9: Fifth Sunday after Pentecost According to Paul, as children of God, we can count our chickens before they hatch!

July 16: Sixth Sunday after Pentecost The gifts we present are redeemed as ministry in God’s economy.

July 23: Seventh Sunday after Pentecost Stewards recognize and use the gifts they have.

July 30: Eighth Sunday after Pentecost When did the church of Christ begin to think that it was made up of underdogs and wimps? The Bible says, “If God is for us, who is against us?” (Romans 8:31)

August 6: Ninth Sunday after Pentecost God knows our weaknesses and blesses us with love just the same. Can we, as stewards, do any less for others?

August 13: Tenth Sunday after Pentecost We can be generous not only when we feel joyful and blessed, but also when we feel neglected and deprived.

August 20: Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost Nothing is ever truly lost that is shared with others. Knowing this, how can we jealously hoard what we have been given?

August 27: Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost Stewardship means learning how to receive as well as how to give. God’s gifts can come from the most unlikely places; when we recognize and accept them for what they are, everyone benefits.

September 3: Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost How often does fear prevent us from giving as much as we are able to give? Stewardship allows us to choose to be free from fear by using our gifts to free others from what enslaves them.

September 10: Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost Jealousy and grumbling over what we don’t have, and what we think we need, can never satisfy us. But as we share what we have with others, God will continue to give us what we need.

September 17: Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost As stewards, what we give is not as important as that we give.

September 24: Sixteenth Sunday after Pentecost Stewardship asks us to share God’s love with all God’s people, not just a select few.

October 1: Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost Everyone is welcome at God’s banquet table. Good stewards use their resources to help ensure that no one feels left out of God’s abundance.

October 8: Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost Everything comes from God and belongs to God; we give, not in tribute to God’s power, but in gratitude for what we have been given.

October 15: Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost “All we have” can be a little or a lot. There is always a way to reach out to our neighbour.

October 22: Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost When we are gone, what legacy will we leave? Will it be one of generous giving from God’s abundance, or one of hoarding and fear?

October 29: Twenty-first Sunday after Pentecost God heals us; God heals through us. Our offerings are God’s healing love in action.

November 5: Twenty-second Sunday after Pentecost Stewardship does not put God in a box labelled “church on Sunday.” Stewardship brings God to every part of daily life, and speaks out against oppression wherever it is found.

November 12: Twenty-third Sunday after Pentecost Stewards see others as they see themselves. We are all broken and in need. What can we do to help each other?

November 19: Twenty-fourth Sunday after Pentecost The gifts of this world will not last past our lifetimes, but God’s gifts to us—and our gifts to God—will last through this life and beyond.

November 26: Twenty-fifth Sunday after Pentecost (Reign of Christ Sunday) Stewards help to create a new heaven and a new earth by living as though they are already here.

December 3: First Sunday of Advent Let us remember the gifts we have received from God, and in our turn become God’s giving hands in this world.

December 10: Second Sunday of Advent Stewards trust that God will replenish what has been given freely, and so dare to be wellsprings for others.

December 17: Third Sunday of Advent God gives us glorious, perplexing, unbelievably wonderful gifts! Stewards recognize them for what they are—and give God the best they have to offer in return.

December 24: Fourth Sunday of Advent We are called on to share our tangible gifts, and also the intangible ones—joy, laughter, compassion.

December 31: First Sunday after Christmas By our actions, we receive God’s love and reflect it back into the world around us.
