Tools and techniques (navigation diagram and building interactive tools) Navigation diagram: Linear:Liner navigation is usually useful for website design tutorials. It is also used for a lot of other uses for example in study guides. Shopping carts, checkout-areas and photo galleries all use linear navigation. Linear means that information is in a straight line and not all over the place below is an image showing linear navigation:

Hierarchy:Hierarchies are used to in website navigation to link the web-pages together it will start with the homepage, then go to the main sections of the website for examples your main pages like media, guide, description pages, next it goes to subsections which will be sections on each page, lastly it will go to databases of the website this is shown below:

Matrix:There are six types of matrix these are L shape, T shape, Y shape, C shape, X shape and roof shaped. An L shape matrix on a website is used for customer requirements. The T shape matrix is used to relate to product models; the Y shaped matrix is a relationship between customer requirements, internal metrics process and all the departments involved. The C shaped matrix shows relating products to customers and manufacturing locations. The X shaped matrix includes the same as T

shape but is an extended version and will also show freight lines and manufacturing sites. The roof shaped uses L shaped and T shaped matrix to show a group of items relating to its self.

Building interactive tools: Pseudo-code for client-server scripting:Pseudo-code is writing down all the steps without the programming language which can be hard to understand if it has never been studied in detail, it is not programming specific but is very high level this is what it will look like when writing Pseudo-code: Lookup listening IP address from table. Lookup listening IP from table. Bind/IP to socket. Issue listen, wait for connection. Client lookup up IP/ port from table Client gets socket. This is what Pseudo-code looks like when being used as shown above it is not using programming language.

Animation:Animation in building interactive tools is creating your ideas visually and interactive animations. They are sometimes made using flash. Web developers use animations to also display things on a website like banners, any images used its all animation.

Audio/visual elements:There are three main audio and visual elements used in websites these are banners, video and image galleries. Banners will be flash based or either static and they will help designers portray the service or product the company is selling. There are three types of videos designers use on a website they are either service videos, demo videos or product videos these usually give information on the product. Photo/image galleries are used by designers to depict the product; it also makes for a more attractive manner and gets customers interested in the product.

Ensuring compliance with W3C:W3C compliance is important because it helps accessibility for disabled users, it optimizes search engines. Ensuring accessibility for disabled people with W3C is crucial because if it was not ensured it would be going against the disability discrimination act (DDA). There are debates going on whether to make sites compliant with the W3C guidelines in place, if there are W£C compliant they will be 1. A search engine will be able to find your site by using key words. 2. It will be places W3C compliance in the future. 3. Make it easier for search engines spider to visit your site.

Meta-tagging:Meta-tags are used in HTML documents what they do is provide structured metadata about the webpage, the information displayed by the Meta elements can be used by search engines. Below is an example of use of Meta elements:

Meta tags will be used to show the location a business serves, in the example below the information given geographical and according to zip codes:

Cascading style sheets:Cascading style sheets (CSS) is a sheet of language used in programs such as Dreamweaver to create HTML web pages they can change the style of writing on the webpage that you are creating it saves time and keeps the styles consistent throughout the webpages. Although almost all webpages will use CSS to present the page, but will only be used for the text the style sheet will deal with the layout, colours and font on the webpages and you can add new styles to the style sheet whenever it is needed so it can be constantly updated. CSS style sheets are good to keep everything neat a tidy and consistent when making a webpage with text on.
