August 11, 2016 TZ PTO meeting called to order at 6:00 p.m. In attendance: Jenny Riggle, Melanie Welker, Jana Boggess, Tonya Welker, Jon Strube, Angela Huff, Erin Confer-Staggers, Robin Weir/Jonathan Weir, Syianna Mendhall-Parker, Maureen Langdoc, Mary ?, Katie Barger and Dana Timcheck. Secretary’s report: Erin read the minutes and the statement “Jana and Tonya will meet to transition the ledgers by June 30th and the 2016-2017 proposed budget will be presented for approval on August 11th at the PTO meeting” were amended to: “The new authorized signer at First National is Jana Boggess as of June 30, 2016. Tonya Welker needs to be removed as an authorized signer.” The amendment was made 1st by Jana, 2 by Tonya and was unanimously approved. Jana Bogess-Savings account balance is $4611.43 and. Checking account balance is Angela Huff-Because of PTO’s not for profit status, we cannot carry over large sums of money from year to year; therefore we purchased Ziggy cameras, pencil sharpeners, stools, stop animation clay with wire forms, glazes, paint products, adaptors for tripods that work with iPads and other art items for the art room, . Last, supplies for MakerSpace after school hands on creative building sessions, including saws and screws that work on cardboard, were also acquired. We postponed replacing safety pads in the gym and will re-evaluate sometime this year. Introductions were made around the table of those attending the PTO meeting. A. Restaurant Nights- We made just over $1400 last year in restaurant nights. The chair this year is Heather Grable. August, Monday 15 is our first one and was planned on TZ’s family picnic night so families can grab dinner at subway to bring with them—flier is needed when purchasing at Subway. September 27th is the McDonalds teacher night. B. Box tops- Money earned was $1,599 for 2015-2016. Our goal is $3,000 for this year. Codes from lids and regular coke brand bottles and cases, Tyson, Labels for Education, Campbells, V8, Swanson, Spaghettios, Aunt Millies breads, Sunbeam bread bar codes, and SunnyD rewards are being collected this year. Flier is ready that explains all of these items we are collected and they will put up a very visible bulletin board display to get the kids excited/post dates of competitions, etc. Containers will be provided in each pod so teachers can put the class envelope it in each week. Friday is the collection day. C. Fall Fundraiser-Melanie Welker is the chair, kicks off on 8/17 with packets being sent home. Last year we made $5,000 profit. Parents will pick up the items to be distributed to customers at the fall parent/teacher conferences in October. D. Kroger Cards-PTO gets a percentage of what the community spends at Kroger based on the number of TZ cards registered. We hope all families will register TZ on their Kroger card for us to do well on this fundraiser.
E. Men’s group-started last year by Jim Ensley with intention to involve men with students at PTO/TZ sponsored events. They managed all props and back stage work at POTH and there is a project for Mrs. Frank they are tackling this year along with assisting with TZ’s walk-a-thon, bike/walk to school day and other events. Men can sign up at the picnic and all volunteers will need a background check. F. Fitness Fanatics-Each day at the beginning of recess students are required to run/walk one lap during recess and they receive a token for each lap. Weekly tabulations of tokens are taken by someone from PTO and there are prizes for certain milestones. Michelle Reese wants to help, but the chairperson is still needed to tabulate and give out prizes. Please let Angela know if you are interested. G. Teacher Appreciate-Melanie Welker August 4th lunch for teachers was held and small packages to welcome teachers back on their first day. Other plans this year include treats for conferences, holidays, I-step, and staff birthdays. Pinterest parties to assemble gifts for teachers is being considered. H. Spirit Wear-Sales of shirts with variation of TZ logo will begin in September. Long sleeved and short sleeved with one traditional style and one with a Pokemon go theme. VI. Old Business VII. New Business A. Budget Approval 2016-2017- Dana approved, Melanie 2nd B. Direct Appeal Letter-No formal letter will be sent home with students. A letter will be posted on the TZ website C. Time With Teachers will be held on September 14, 2016-PTO is asking for volunteers to help the evening of this event. Minimum bid for participation in $5. D. Student Shirts-More details at the September meeting E. Ice Cream Social-August 15 5:00-7:00-this event will coordinate with our Subway Restaurant Night. PTO is asking for help for set up and information table. VIII. Principal’s Report-Mr. Strube asked all teachers to participate in one PTO event this year if they plan to use PTO $$.
