Saint Andrew’s Refugee Services, Cairo Unaccompanied Youth Bridging Program Psychosocial Worker, Vacancy Announcement Founded in 1979, St Andrew’s Refugee Services (StARS) is a refugee service provider in central Cairo that works to enhance the quality of life for refugees and vulnerable migrants through four programs: education, legal, community outreach, and psychosocial services. We serve people from many places, including Ethiopia, Iraq, Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia, Eritrea, and Syria. Project Description: Unaccompanied Youth Bridging Program (UYBP) StARS’ UYBP provides a hybrid education and psychosocial program for unaccompanied children and youth (UCY) in Cairo. UCY are refugee and migrant children and youth in Egypt without their parents. UYBP has four main components – the Preparatory program for those waiting to enter the full-time course, the full-time Core program, the Alumni program for those who have graduated from the full-time Core program, and the Junior program for unaccompanied children aged 8 – 13 years old. Children and youth in the different programs take a variety of academic classes, including English, math, computer and Arabic classes, and participate in psychosocial group activities aimed at increasing their self-reliance and independent living skills. Students also receive psychosocial support and counseling on opportunities to participate in meaningful activities. Role Under the supervision of the UYBP Coordinators, the UYBP psychosocial worker is responsible for providing support to refugee children and youth UYBP participants between the ages of 8-19 years old who are in Cairo without their parents. This includes identifying the needs of children, providing basic support, completing needed referrals and follow-up. The UYBP Psychosocial worker will facilitate bi-weekly psychosocial-education group activities to help students build their knowledge of their rights, increase life-skills and promote selfreliance. Additional tasks include supervising UYBP youth assistants and completing administrative duties necessary to UYBP's success. Responsibilities All duties are carried out under the supervision of the UYBP Coordinators. Psychosocial student support ● Conduct initial needs assessments with new UYBP students to identify their needs, and recommend necessary interventions. ● Refer students to the Unaccompanied Children and Youth team, Direct Assistance Program and other appropriate service providers. ● Follow up on all referrals made in timely manner.

Provide students with emotional support, basic counselling, and follow-up on their psychosocial wellbeing as needed. Accompany students to service providers in cases of emergency or when deemed necessary in agreement with the UYBP Coordinators. Conduct transition plan support with students as needed by assisting them in identifying their strengths and resources and link with available education opportunities, training, employment and other meaningful activities for after the program. Proactively identify needs in the program to better support students and suggest relevant actions in response, highlighting them to the UYBP Coordinators.

Group activities ● Input in the design and delivery of regular group activities that respond to identified needs among students, aiming at increasing students’ knowledge of their rights, increase life-skills and promote selfreliance and self-protection. ● Facilitate bi-weekly psychosocial-education group activities for two student groups according to provided curriculum and in coordination with the UYBP Coordinators and other team members. ● Tailor psycho-educational curriculum as needed in coordination with the UYBP Coordinators Psychosocial Groups & Activities Program Coordinator. ● Assist in the development and coordination of recreational activities for students and participate in youth groups. Supervision ● Supervise assigned UYBP Teaching Assistants by providing young UYBP staff with necessary psychosocial and emotional support and completing supervision sheets. ● Oversee time sheets for working hours of Teaching Assistants. Administrative and other duties ● Maintain accurate records on student referrals and follow-up activities. ● Assist in the registration and placement of new students. ● Develop and manage transportation records for students, volunteers, alumni ● Keep record of student issues that may arise and require recording. ● Call absent Core and Preparatory students (as assigned) and keep record of reasons and dates of absence. Complete any necessary follow-up to support students and encourage attendance. ● Be prepared to occasionally substitute for UYBP teachers if they are absent. This will require printing off pre-prepared lessons and worksheets and supervising students, teaching is not required. ● Work and cooperate with program coordinators, other UYBP staff, and other psychosocial staff members to monitor and improve our services to UCY clients and to ensure we carry out our aims and goals in an effective manner. ● Work in cooperation with the PS and StARS team to highlight issues facing refugees and refugee communities to coordinate for needed advocacy for fulfillment of the rights and needs of refugees in Egypt. ● Other duties as assigned; flexibility about duties is highly important.

All of the above should be carried with respect and non-discrimination, and in line with the child protection and safeguarding policies at StARS. Qualifications ● Experience working with children and youth. ● Experience in the provision of individual or group based services to vulnerable groups. ● Experience working or volunteering to support refugee communities, in particular with community based organizations preferred. ● Academic degree in social work, psychology, or a related field OR extensive applicable experience. ● Work history demonstrating a commitment to professionalism, effective communication skills, and the ability to work with a multi-cultural team. ● Ability to assess and respond to emergency situations calmly and quickly. ● Competency in Microsoft Office. ● Experience in administrative duties such as keeping electronic records or managing databases. ● Good spoken and written English necessary. ● Because of the languages spoken by UYBP students, fluency in one of the following languages is necessary: either Tigrinya, Oromo OR Somali (required) and Arabic, Tigre, Bilen, Saho and Amharic (preferred). Salary: The salary for this position is 3600 EGP, rising to 3,900 EGP after a three month probationary period. 125 EGP per month medical allowance, and 50 EGP per month pension (applicable after the probationary period has been completed).
