Workgroups Redefined , continued Coffee Break

Kick-off Present the aims & program for the day — {9am} Collective BrainDump: What Big Data sources we know of? What projects we know of have been solved with Big Data? Workgroups ~ We will divide into 10 groups and work on different plausible scenarios for utilizing big data in the context of UNFPA’s work. Scenarios based on data sources: · Call detail records · Citizen reporting / crowd-sourcing · Financial transaction data · Online information · Physical sensors · Web search terms Scenarios based on UNFPA’s thematic areas: · Adolescents and youth · Gender, human rights, and culture · Humanitarian · Population and development · Sexual and reproductive health Coffee Break Workgroups Continue Workgroups Present Results The Big Data “3 Cs” — (Emmanuel Letouzé) Presenting a conceptual framework for UNFPA’s big data work according to the “3 Cs”: ~ Big Data Crumbs ~ Big Data Capacities ~ Big Data Community Workgroups Redefined Drawing upon the“3 Cs” framework, resume group work and re-imagine scenarios through this new lens. Participants select new groups, switching from a data source scenario to a thematic area scenario (and vice versa). Lunch — {13am}

“Workgroups Redefined” Present Results Synthesis Closing — {18pm}

Thursday 5 February: Defining The Future.

Coffee Break

Kick Off — {9am}

Presenting UNFPA Big Data Challenge results. Strategic Vision and Pilot Proposals

Playbook Workgroups Eight groups will be formed, and will work throughout the morning to develop recommendations for UNFPA’s Big Data Playbook, following the “data lifecycle”. Data Sourcing Data Capacities Data Partnerships Data Mining Data Analysis Data Dissemination Data Usage Impact on Public Policies Playbook Workgroups Participants work in subgroups to explore the aspects of Big Data and make recommendations about how to incorporate them in the UNFPA Big Data strategy. Coffee Break Presentation of Playbooks by Workgroups Each group presents their thinking and recommendations. Lunch — {13am} UNFPA Big Data Challenge Participants divide into three groups to synthesize work over the past three-days and develop a strategy, vision, and project prototypes for UNFPA’s work on big data. You might choose one of the following exercises. Synthesis of Strategic Vision This group will synthesize UNFPA's strategic vision for Big Data, in particular drawing upon the thematic and data source group work from Day 2, and Playbook recommendations from Day 3. Experiencing Data This group will immerse itself in the world of Big Data through a data experiment. Innovation Challenge This group will prototype innovative projects through which UNFPA can work with Big Data, which will subsequently be considered by the UNFPA Innovation Fund. Prototypes will draw upon the ideas generated throughout the Bootcamp.
