US History II Burlington High School Mr. Plummer 2015-16 This course will cover American history from 1865 (end of the Civil War) to modern day. This time period saw the United States’ transformation from a regional power to the world’s lone super power and is characterized by global politics, social upheaval, and changing balance of power. Assignments are designed to allow students to see this change through multiple perspectives, including ethnicities, nations, and socio-economic classes. Exams/Quizzes: All items on Exams and Quizzes will be drawn from material covered during class and in assigned reading/activities. Projects: A variety of student centered projects will be completed throughout the semester. These projects may be in the form of a paper, poster, presentation, artistic representation, etc Activities/Assignments: In class activities and assignments are designed to give students a better understanding of the material after instruction. Preparedness and Participation: This will be drawn from coming to class with the required materials (listed below), warm-up checks, and ability to contribute to the class in a positive manner. Classroom Policies:   





Late work will be assessed a 50% penalty if it is more than 1 minute late. No late work will be accepted 2 weeks after the due date. Students with excused absences will be given 1 day extra to turn in work for every day they missed. The instructor will work with students as much as possible to give out make up work, but it is ultimately the student’s responsibility to seek out and obtain missed assignments. For planned absences (sporting events, vacation, orthodontist appointments, etc), the student will notify the instructor prior to the absence. The instructor is available to students who need additional help before school, after school, during lunch, and 7th period. Inform the instructor of your intent use this time in order to ensure availability. Extra credit is not available on demand.







Any item (including cell phones, electronic devices, or food/drink) that present a distraction to the student, his/her peers, or the instructor will be confiscated and returned at an appropriate time or according to BHS guidelines. Barring emergencies or documented medical need, 1 student at a time may leave class to use the bathroom. Students who misuse this policy will have to use the bathroom during passing period. Students can rewrite any paper 5 paragraphs or longer as many times as needed (until the end of the semester) until it reaches a 90%. This offer is void if the instructor believes the student is not making a good faith effort to achieve the highest points possible each attempt. Late papers (assessed a 50% penalty) can be rewritten up to a 45%.

Grading Scale: 93%-100% = A 86%-92% = B 77%-85% = C 70%-76% = D 0%-69% = F
