USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Research Station OUTREACH NOTICE Hydrologic Technicians GS-1316-04 and -05 Natural Resource (Plant) Technicians GS-0404-04 and -05 The USDA Forest Service, Pacific Southwest Research Station (PSW) is seeking candidates for both Hydrologic Technicians (GS-1316 Levels 4 and 5) and Natural Resource Technicians with botany expertise (GS-0404 Levels 4 and 5) to fill full-time, temporary positions. Brief description of duties associated with this position: The positions will be located in Shaver Lake, CA and are associated with PSW’s Fresno office. Work will mostly be field sampling in the Sierra National Forest at elevations between 5,000 and 8,000 feet, but some work will be located in the office and laboratory in Fresno. Tasks include locating permanent sampling areas with a compass and GPS, installing nutrient samplers; collecting hydrology, soil, and sediment data; and measuring vegetation and fuel loads. The Kings River Experimental Watersheds project is a watershed-level, integrated ecosystem project for headwater streams in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The employee will be working with the lead research scientist, Dr. Carolyn Hunsaker, or with a hydrologist or hydrologic technician in the field. Good Microsoft Excel skills and experience with GPS are desired along with an interest in working in small teams in a forest, mountain environment. A valid driver’s license and a good driving record are required. Salary will be based on the applicant’s completed years of college and/or experience (about $13 to $15 per hour). Work can start in June of 2014 and extend through September or October. Government housing is available for rent near Shaver Lake, CA.
