UX Design Supporting Material Product and Competitor Research I initially browsed the Google Play Store and Apple Store to see what products are currently available for rally co-drivers and what they offer. The initial product found was an app called RallyPacenotes. The app allowed the competitors to calculate the angle of the corner by attaching the phone to the steering wheel and calculating the angle from this. This would be useful for competitors however while allowing an accurate measurement of the bend the app does not store the pace notes itself. It also does not allow other pacenotes such as distance and bumps to be added.

The second app and one that has been created a few times throughout the store is a tripmeter. These are not used to create pace notes for the rally but to keep timing throughout the event. By adding features from this app such as distance, stage start time, stage finish time. Those using my app would be able to monitor timing of the event as well.

Another way in which I researched for my product was to ensure that the app I was creating would not be limited to British competitors. In order to see how it would be taken by other countries I read Mark A.Williams’ book ‘A guide to Rally Co-Driving in America’. This allowed me to confirm that the app I’m creating would work to the different rulings in America. Reference: Williams, M. (2014) A Guide to Rally Co-Driving. Rallye Books. Finally I researched the current pace notes made in the UK and the most common of those is Patterson Pace notes. I looked through the style of the notes to ensure that users of the app would be familiar moving between the two.

Target Audience Research The MSA 2015 Annual Report stated that in England alone there are 21,876 motorsport competitors and 3,841 events. There were 7,065 rally licences in 2015 and 745 rallies across Great Britain. Reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_female_World_Rally_Championship_drivers Rallying is a sport with a broad age range with juniors starting at the age of 14 and many drivers competing later in life up to 70’s. This is represented in the World Rally Championship, where in

Joe Hutchinson most sports such as football retirement is considered mid 30’s, Rally Drivers have won events at the age of 46. With this in mind in the current technological age the app should be easy to use for a broad age range. Reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_World_Rally_Championship_records

Evidence of feedback Throughout the Development of the app design I have had feedback in person from my peers as well as my tutors.

Joe Hutchinson As well as feedback in person I sent out a survey asking questions on my initial designs and my colour Palette.

Due to the complex nature of the app and pace notes in general I was satisfied that those who replied despite having little co-driver experience if any found the app generally simple.

Joe Hutchinson The majority agreed with my initial thoughts that adding images to the app would be unnecessary and could possibly over complicate the design.

Joe Hutchinson After the feedback I used a majority of palette 3 but also included some of the colours found in other palettes to give variation.
