DRIVER – 1 VACANCY ( BASED IN MOROTO) PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: Mercy Corps drives high quality, analytical work in tough places. We have been operating in Uganda since 2006 and currently manage a breadth of programs in Acholi and Karamoja sub-regions with funding from a basket of donors. We partner with a range of private, public and civil society actors to systemically broaden opportunity for people across northern Uganda. PEACE III Program is designed to strengthen cross border Conflict Management in the Horn of Africa. It will strengthen horizontal and vertical linkages within and between local, national, and regional conflict management actors. In Uganda, PEACE III will be implemented in Karamoja region with an operational office in Moroto. GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY: The Driver is responsible for driving safely all Mercy Corps Staff and property in accordance with established protocols. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Drive and manage the assigned vehicle skillfully and provide transportation service to staff; Drive the assigned vehicle with at most care and with full respect to the traffic rules and regulations as well as Mercy Corps Uganda vehicle use guideline; Ensure that the assigned vehicle meets all legal requirements at any time; Keep the assigned vehicle clean and tidy; Maintain up to date records of vehicle log sheet for each and every movement of the vehicle; Undertake a strict follow up that the assigned vehicle is periodically repaired, technically in good condition and can provide the intended transportation service; Undertake minor maintenance/service as deemed as necessary. Conduct himself/herself both professionally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and not jeopardize its humanitarian mission; Ensure that all necessary measures are taken to provide MC employees with a safe working environment as detailed in existing guidelines; Do any other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: Uganda Advanced Level Certificate or equivalent Valid Drivers Ugandan License; Class DL Minimum of 3 years of experience driving 4WD cars; Knowledge of driving in less secure and harsh environment; Effective communication both orally and writing in English; Understanding and following safety procedures; Must speak the local language
CLEANER – 1 VACANCY ( BASED IN MOROTO) ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Check and clean the offices, kitchen and bathrooms and utensils on daily basis; Maintain the reception area cleaned, sweep and dispose and trash every morning and afternoon; In charge of general cleanliness of the guest house wing and laundry for the guest room tenants; Ensure water supply to the offices and guest wing all the time and the tanks are always full; Assist in food shopping and cooking when required by the guest wing tenants; In charge of making tea for the staff on daily basis, provide to some visitors when requested, arrange the table for meeting in the boardroom and provide water and necessary items during meetings; Attend visitors as necessary and stand for the guard at the gate from time to time when requested; Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission; Do any other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: Ordinary Level Certificate and two years relevant experience Effective English communication oral & writing, Understanding and neatness, highly hygienic, honesty, detecting problems and reporting information to appropriate personnel/supervisor GUARD – 1 VACANCY ( BASED IN MOROTO) ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Man the gate as required and ensure the yard and surroundings remain tidy and clean all the time; Patrol assigned areas on foot to ensure the security of the personal, building and equipments; Examines doors, windows and gates to determine that they are secured at all time; Watch for and reports irregularities, such as fire hazards, doors left unlocked before/after working hours, alarm the staff in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons in the premises; Maintain properly the registration books (Visitors & Security Log books); Operate and monitor the office/guest house generator, maintain generator’s running log sheet, and give updates and report; Adhere to Mercy Corps policies and procedures as outlined in the Mercy Corps Uganda National Staff Policy Manual; Ensure that all necessary measures are taken to provide MC employees with a safe working environment as detailed in existing guidelines; KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: Ordinary Level Certificate and two years relevant experience Effective English communication and writing Understanding and following safety procedures, detecting problems and reporting information to appropriate personnel/supervisor
