From Your President The camp clean-up was May 13th. What a day – rain stopped pouring just before 10 AM and only sprinkles after that… most of the time was dry enough. We got a lot done – thanks to all. The MOB was there with Marty and Mark leading their effort with 3-4 boys. They cleaned out the bunk house and helped with trimming and picking-up limbs and debris – 3 trailer loads. Lots of wet kids from picking up the dripping limbs. Marty enjoyed running the tractor.
Ray Carlyle and the Sea Scouts 6 - 8 of them plus two adults, cleaned out the pump house, pit toilet and storage shed; and then organized the pump house putting all on shelves and making it easy to access – very nice job!! Bob Ladu and his brother and a friend helped with cleanup. Bob mowed the upper camp amphitheater. The grass was really wet, so that was no easy task. Special thanks to Don Heavirland. He brought his brush hog and cleared all the nooks and crannies around the
lower camp – was like the energizer bunny, just kept going and going. Thanks Don, hope you are not too sore. Gay, my son and Mary provided lunch. There was lots to eat and plenty of hungry folks. The rain returned and ended our day. It was good to see so many come out to help. Much appreciated!
The third quarter District meeting was held May 5-6 in Burnaby BC. Our Oratory and CCDHH kids did well but did not win any scholarships – better luck next year.

Additional Comments on the Camp Clean-up In spite the cold and rain, eight club members and five additional adults, plus 8-10 youth showed up to help. I want to add my thanks to these folks and think it is commendable that more than 20 people were willing to dedicate part of their Saturday to our spring clean-up!
Scholarship Winners by Linda Vaught Disney All students spoke for four to five minutes on the topic "What the world gains from optimism." We heard that dogs make people happy, chocolate lava cake is the best dessert ever, and women’s rights are human rights, among other things. All students were inspired by the topic, and in turn, inspired the viewers who had assembled to watch their performances. Two particularly interesting phrases
Following a delicious lunch of hotdogs, soda, chips, cookies, homemade potato salad and hot apple cider, Rod Pollack and Kay Johnston joined the team for a 55 minute Board meeting.
It really is spring as evidenced by the patch of wildflowers behind the bunk house. Thank you Gay Enyeart for the great photos!

Board Members are: Don Job, Kay Johnston, Donna Rude and Steve Enyeart (Camp Director). Again, if you think you would like to serve as a board member, let one of the officers listed below know. All officers elected to represent the Club also become officers of the Foundation.
Looking to the Future The lawn mowers we have been using at our Youth Camp are more than 20 years old. Thanks to Steve Enyeart and his son, their maintenance efforts have kept them running, but it’s time to think about replacing them. The last mower was purchased through private donations rather than using money earmarked for youth activities. It will probably take a couple of years to acquire enough money, so if you can donate, make checks payable to Optimist Club Foundation and specify “Lawnmower”. Thank you for your support.

The Optimist Creed Promise yourself…… To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind; To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet; To make all your friends feel there is something in them; To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true; To think only of the best, to work only for the best and expect only the best; To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own; To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future; To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile; To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others; To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, to strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
