Volume 11 Issue 10

THE BURNER Official Newsletter of the Valley Circle Burners AMA Charter Club #4406

Editor’s Message Hello to all club members and friends, I hope that everyone had a safe and memorable holiday season. This issue of The Burner is a little on the lite side. Our November 1/2A Fun Fly was blown out but still well attended and we also managed to have a club meeting. (See minutes on page 2). On February 1st we had a Teach and Fly session with a group of Cub Scouts from the Boys and Girls club of Burbank. I am sure that everyone had a great time. Thanks goes to Steve Sobel for coordinating this event and to Dave Hull along with Steve and Bill Barber as Intro Pilots. Just a reminder about Club Dues. If you haven’t paid your 2015 VCB club dues yet please send them to our treasurer, his adderss is on page 4. Respectfully, John Patwell

VALLEY CIRCLE BURNERS Minutes of meeting, Sunday, November 23, 2014 At control line circle, Sepulveda Basin, Van Nuys Call to Order: 9:45 AM Present: Bill Barber, Ron Duly, Stanley Levin, Tony Naccarato, Igor Pachenko, John Patwell, Larry Renger, Steve Schiff, Jerry Silver, Steve Sobel, Lee Strickland, Sylvia Strickland, Bill Taylor John welcomed everyone to the meeting and reminded us of the advantages of holding the meetings at the field. Everyone knows where it is, and it is free as opposed to the cost and noise of a restaurant. Old Business > The City is working on the carrier circle and is doing a good job. The lawn was mowed. They may work on the main circles. > RC cars have been run near the circles but not recently. Tony pointed out that Hobby People may be sending RC car users to the circles. Tony also noted that there is an area on the other side of Woodley that RC cars can use, and he has been advising them to go there. > This year’s sanctioned events went well. New Business > No official Treasurer’s Report today. The balance is believed to be approximately $4,000. > Next year the May Meet and Fun Fly will be a low-key event. > The date for the next Summer BBQ is to be determined, but it will not be the July 4th weekend and not when the Knights have an event. > The Hi Johnson and November Fun Fly will be scheduled. > John mentioned the difficulty getting judges, but it was noted that people do step in to do it. We must continue to do our best to make judging reasonably comfortable. >John will not be president next year. He will continue to do the Newsletter, and he is willing to be a CD and/or a Co-CD for events. But he is doing too much to continue as president. The Club needs a minimum of 5 members for an AMA sanction and insurance. > Motion: Jerry Silver nominated Chris Forbes for president, second by Lee Strickland (and pending Chris’s acceptance), and that other officers remain the same. Motion passed. > Bill Barber offered to serve as president if Chris declines the nomination. > A question came up about the field in Camarillo – should we keep it? The consensus was that we should. It is all grass and costs $60 per year for insurance. It was suggested that we have a Fun Fly there. > VCB T-shirts are ready for those who paid. > Larry Renger reported on Knights of the Round Circle events at Whittier Narrows: December 6: 1 cc Stunt. Also on December 6, the annual dinner is at 6PM at the Doubletree Inn. $37 December 6 & 7: Racing and Speed, Torquette, and Hollow Leg Meeting adjourned 10:10 AM Respectfully submitted, Steve Sobel Page 2 of 4

A message to Steve Sobel and The Valley Circle Burners From Shanna Warren, Chief Executive Officer, The Boys & Girls Club Of Burbank and GEV

Hi there, On behalf of Den 8 and 10, I wanted to thank you all for hosting us on Sunday, February 1. Our boys had a wonderful time and learned so much. I have heard from many of their parents that the boys are still talking about flying a plane. I am grateful for the time you spent with each of them and hope some of them will return with their families to visit you all. As I mentioned, I also run a large non profit organization for children and I would love to bring a group of kids out sometime soon if you will let me. I have attached a few photos. Sincerely, Shanna
