2017-2018 Middle/High School Robotics Competition We are very excited to announce that The British School in Tokyo will be competing in the international VEX Robotics Competition in the coming academic year. The first round will be held at the American School in Japan on 18th November 2017 so we will need to get two teams assembled and working on robots as soon as possible. A sample from a previous competition at ASIJ can be seen here. An overview of the competition can be seen here. Preparation for the competition will be quite intense. We will likely be running the club twice a week for 2 hours each session and as the competition approaches we’ll need to train for a couple of Saturdays too. It will be a big commitment so we will only consider students who can offer that level of dedication to the team. It will be the most fun hard work you’ve ever done and will certainly look very good on your school record. We will be interviewing prospective team members next week so if students are interested they should email Mr. Hayes (
[email protected]) stating the position they would like to apply for and a couple of paragraphs on what they will bring to the team. The following roles need to be filled: Designers, Fabricators/Builders, Programmers, Project Managers, Public Relations Managers, Photo/Videographers and Technical Writers. This competition is aimed at students aged 14 and up but we will consider exceptionally dedicated younger students. We will also be offering other competitive robotics opportunities for our younger students. If you are interested and want to start thinking about how you can help BST succeed please watch this video on the challenge this year and have a look at this and this to get an idea of what other schools are designing at this early stage.
