Review From the reviews: “Readers who are interested in the basics of cloud computing will like this collection … . Basically, it provides a general audience with the fundamentals of a new computing and networking paradigm. … this book is valuable because it tackles all of the relevant elements of the concept.” (Piotr Cholda, ACM Computing Reviews, March, 2011) From the Back Cover Cloud computing continues to emerge as a subject of substantial industrial and academic interest. Although the meaning and scope of "cloud computing" continues to be debated, the current notion of clouds blurs the distinctions between grid services, web services, and data centers, among other areas. Clouds also bring considerations of lowering the cost for relatively bursty applications to the fore. Cloud Computing: Principles, Systems and Applications is an essential reference/guide that provides thorough and timely examination of the services, interfaces and types of applications that can be executed on cloud-based systems. The book identifies and highlights state-of-the-art techniques and methods for designing cloud systems, offers balanced coverage of related technologies that collectively contribute towards the realization of cloud computing, and presents mechanisms and schemes for linking clouds to economic activities. With an emphasis on the conceptual and systemic links between cloud computing and other distributed computing approaches, this text also addresses the practical importance of efficiency, scalability, robustness and security as the four cornerstones of quality of service.

Most helpful customer reviews 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. A bunch poorly written research papers By Odin I am technical, and bought this book more or less on a whim. I looked at the table of contents, which at least seemed interesting. However, once I got the book it quickly became clear that it's generally a set of research papers which aren't really even stitched together, stuck between two over-priced hard covers. To make matters worse, although there are a few pages (pages- I mean that literally) that have some value, and where I learned something at a high level, most of the papers in the book are fluffy and without detail or substance.

My recommendation is that if you are technical you should stay far away from this book. You will need something more detailed and grounded. If you are not technical, you will need something more simple and well written. In short, it's a ripoff. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Be Careful By Wilson Be careful: this book is a compilation of research papers that are not always related to each other. I've read the chapters related to my research and I could find some good pieces of information in some chapters, but in general they didn't help me that much. If there is something really negative about this book is the Chapter 2... It is almost unreadable. I cannot believe that this paper was published anywhere... See all 2 customer reviews...
