WALL SUPPORTS LOCAL LIONS CLUB ‘RECYCLE FOR SIGHT 2014’ Canberrans are being called on to donate their old glasses and improve the sight of visually impaired people in the poorer communities of Asia, Africa and the Pacific, Member for Brindabella Andrew Wall said today. “The Lions club of Kambah is inviting individuals and families from Tuggeranong and around Canberra to donate their unused spectacles so they can be recycled for this project,” Mr Wall said. “The Kambah Lions Club hope to collect around 100 pairs of old specs each month in 2014 as their contribution to the organisation’s wider Lions’ Recycle for Sight program. Donated specs will be sent to the Lions’ national reconditioning centre where volunteers will grade, clean and repair them. “Canberrans can donate at the OPSM stores in the Tuggeranong Hyperdome, Specsavers at Woden Plaza, while bulk collections can be organised by calling 02 62943399. “Around 153 million people worldwide suffer from nearsightedness and other diseases which can often be treated with corrective lenses. We may see an old pair of glasses lacking value, but we must remember they can change the whole outlook on life for someone less fortunate,” Mr Wall concluded. ___________________________________________________________________ Contact: Joe Prevedello 0402768432
